Insurance costs

Re-insured the1990 Discovery , last year £173 , renewal after a bit of a search £136 .

2010 Octavia next , was £120 , last year looks like £142 is the best I can find this year .

Just to update, got the 2010 Octavia insured for £133.


Some of the quotes were hilarious, Direct Line wanted nearly £500 for it .

I've just insured the Surf again £341.44
Up just under £100 from last year which considering the price rises and the cxxx in a BMW that hit and run me before Christmas isn't to bad...

I was pleasantly surprised when my bike renewal came through. I have upped the annual mileage from 10k to 12k and had to declare speeding points and it only went up £108 (less than 25%). I was expecting 4 figures given the recent reports of doubled premiums etc.

Just had house insurance renewal through, nothing changed from last year but it's gone up 60% time to start shopping around.

So my defender insurance saga continues
So my current provider decided they no longer wanted my business and offered a renewal with 5000 xs. Errrr how much 800 quid with 5000 ecxess.
So off I go various comparison sites….log book says light good vehicle. So its a van, or is it. So when trying van insurance various decent sensible quotes but the xs model not found, my reg number comes up as Defender 90 heavy duty pickup. So in an attempt to try and move things forward honestly I rang a few quotes in an attempt to try to get insurance that matches the defender model. Errrrr the computer says a Defender 90XS TD as my log book doesnt exist, so sorry we cant insure, it for you, Ill contact the underwriter. Ok good. Underwriter wont cover it as its not in the model list, odd that underwriter is currently covering it. A very help chap at Carole Nash tried to help, he hit the same brick wall, apparently to do with the way its listed with the DVLA.
So back to play with a comparison site. If I search for car insurance with out the reg number, I find in cars a Defender 90XS TD as per my light commercial log book. Tried to take it through and purchase insurance. Then when theyask for Reg number it doesn't recognise it, but with on company I could have. 2010 county TD.

Is it just me where my defender is a car by data base code and light commercial by log book, or are others struggling with this. This has boiled my urine so much I would accept any sensible offer before I trade it in on a Rav4 for the Mrs

Saturday i called Carol Nash about the renewal on my 2 bikes, 2017 KTM 1290 Superduke and a 2002 Yamaha FJR1300, last year it was £530 with 8 years no claims. This year they wanted £1305 . Went on to Compare the market and found Hastings for £295 fully comp on both bikes with 8000 miles a year on each including breakdown here and Europe. Ironically Cunning Nash were listed in my choices for £500 how does that work?.

They all want new easy business online, ring up, claim, query or existing customer, they just spin a wheel on the daft price calculator

This will be the fault of the dealer who sold it, and how they filled in the registration form.

I have now…..there software found defender with correct description, but on line price is double Adrian Flux!

Last year's premium was £864.48 no changes in cover, not made a claim; this year's renewal quote £2172.29 rang up the broker, who said 'that's the cheapest we have, our next best is £2600' Got cover from another company at a bit over £900. Do these people think that customers are just going to nod through a 240% price hike?

Mine is £1650. 4 bed stone farm house, two 1 bed holiday let barn conversions, large shed workshop, all tools covered, and farm building, plus acres.

Nope, but it is a fair size Victorian detached place with a couple of brick and slate outbuildings. there's no flood risk here, it is in a quite rural area. One thing that has cropped up in the past is the fact we have oil central heating. What form of heating do you have? was one of the first questions asked on a previous quote request; choosing 'oil' got a refusal to quote PDQ. Presume that particular insurer had previously got spanked with the cleanup cost after someone's oil tank rotted out.
