A Lotus Europa! Nice, and rare. Does it have the Renault 16 engine, or a Twin Cam?
In 1972 I went to look at a road-registered Lotus 47 at a garage in South Norwood. It had a BMW 2002 tii engine, a Hewland g/box, and 4-pot calipers. They wanted £1100, but refused to move it out of the showroom for a test drive unless I showed them that I had the money. Instead, in 1973 I bought a 1972 Piper P2 with a 1600cc Crossflow for £1325, and I've still got it.

I'm looking at a vehicle with two gearboxes, maybe even two clutches as well, with a wooden box to sit on and a dog that looks as puzzled as I am...

2 boxes were not unusual iin 30s race/hillclimb cars.
Done 1 Railton & a late 20 special with them

Must admit edie49 I had to Google what a Piper P2 was and admit again - I've never seen one so they must be super rare. Round about the same time as you I fell in love with a Ginetta (sp?) G15, (rear engine'd Coventry Climax - ie Hillman Imp), but my Dad wouldn't lend me the £700 to buy it. (because he had more sense and probably didn't have the money anyway bless him). I wish I still had my late Mum's first car - a Heinkel Trojan.... have you seen what prices they demand now..?????

well the old Citroen,
started life as a 4 door saloon.......during WW2 in France petrol could not be had unless it was for working vehicles...
So many inc. mine got cut up and made into pick-ups.......
the two gearboxes were used for farming, god knows how they ploughd with it tho.....1 clutch.....
I've rebuilt both boxes and blanked of the reverse gear in the second box......all works for extra low.....hahaha....
Up until the mid-late 30's in France you could order a new vehicle either left or right hand drive.....
The right hookers I call curb watchers.......!!!!!!!!!!
Incidentally those early RHD cars had to have a green rear light fitted to the left rear to denote RHD....mine still has it......
U'll notice the big tube on the back.....well it was used to pick up cars with a chain block.....rear suspension is suitable up graded......the block never came with the truck but have found a vintage item before leaving FR....just in case it went back as a tow truck......
anyway.....
The wife and I have decided she will go back as a 2 door convertable, Fish tail and a buddy seat set in the rear bodywork which will be all ally....or a prop cabriolet....
have to make an English wheel now......dohhhhh.....
so this or this..........what a decision........????

Thats interesting. I always fancied going to France and bringing one back as a project. Hard to know where to look without getting ripped off mind!

As things are I think that plan is on hold for a bit

I always liked the Europa, quite a unique crar, a friends sister had one. My lasting memory of the Europa from childhood was seeing the remains of one that hit a Jaguar head on and burst into flames at the top of our road. Bits everywhere, one of the doors was quite a way up the reservoir embankment. An AA guy I was talking to went to pick one up on the Motorway that had stopped as it was smoking. By the time he arrived the Brigade were there and all that was left to collect was a chassis, seat frames and 5 molten blobs of alloy!

the bikes were in packing crates so not visible.....the Citroen was on the back of 0ne of the 2 forty ft artics I rented.....
The Cream Commer got driven there towing my 6m caravan.....3 border collies n 2 cats so couldnt fly.....
took 10 days......loads'a fun.....
toughest part "the ferries"...they made us drive up to the top deck.....now the clutch is ruined and she smokes a bit.....
When the new barn/workshop is built Charlotte will get a total rebuild......

There are a few old car/bike shows here, that's when this Covid poo is finished......

MrsG's Father finished his amateur racing career in a Europa I believe. Overheated and killed the engine. Blamed the Halfords radiator cap apparently.
He started in Midgets and MGBs. In 2019 I discovered his last Midget was still on the road, but have failed in my attempts to locate the current owner.

I bought my MGA 1600 mk1 in 1973, £100.00, still have it!

Many years ago my nephew started to build a Davrian. Last time I saw it, it looked a bit like this

It was running but had no doors/front panel/glass/interior etc fitted. He took me along the yard in it and it was nippy [Stilleto engine as I recall] but it went the way of all flesh I think.
