Internal bearing puller

Anyone had any luck with small internal bearing pullers? I’ve got one to remove from a blind hole in a casing.
It’s like this

So not a heap of material to grab and I can’t get at the rear of it.

The expanding type work with a slide hammer, if the needles fall out and the tiny lip collapses its time for a burr and die grinder.

Or bread. The whiter and ****tier the better. The old Tesco value ones were handy for that.

Make sure there's no circlip retaining the bearing ...

I found that out in minus 18 oC when a vehicle hub fell of a lorry in the middle of a wood in a vast isolated desolate training area . The packing grease was set hard enough to be carved out ..I didn't find the circlip on the inner race till I'd poured about 20 gallons of boiling water over the hub

Hahah it must be 20 years since I’d done a flywheel spigotbush so I’d forgotten the bread trick. I’ll try that first!!

Keep meaning to get a set of them. Then a job comes in. Use bread to get by then think “I must get me a set of them”

Repeat. For about the last 20 years!!

Years ago I made this out of plate the thread holds the tangs apart during extraction and the nut on top is ground down on 2 sides.

Ground this up from a pair of socket head bolts.

I have a set of these at work (Snap-on), excellent bit of kit!.

In the past I've welded a 6mm stud to blind bearings and slide hammered them out, needs must!.

Agree, but any bread. Sooo easy to get them out with doughy bread. First done it on a flywheel, to remove the gearbox input shaft support/alignment bearing, many years ago. Most recent was needle roller bearings for a jackhammer repair, about 18months ago. Daughter in law was amazed that it worked for removing the flywheel bearing when her clutch needed replacing…. Lots of positive reviews available.

I've seen it done with grease before but never bread!.

Will have to remember that one.
