Show us a pic coz I bought a complete ring coupling, virtually brand new for buttons 'coz it was a ring' then got just a50mm ball hitch bit which just bolted on, so I ended up with a new 50mm 3500 kg hitch worth £400 for about £70 !!if the ring is the same I have that small ring for sale or might be able to help identify.

It is rubber torsion - the progressive flex one I think.

that is good suspension I have never had a problem with it no maintenance and no springs to break, causing axle twist.
I know you are saying it is 3500 kg axle but have you actually checked ? because it is unusual to have overrun on a axle.

Yes I have checked - the wheel hub is huge - 6 stud 18mm with a 205PCD.

are those tapers on the inner part of the stud as if it could have twin wheels ?
Ps is that the weight plate on the coupling ? because if so, that might be the rating of the coupling not the trailer

if it is like this, my ring has the same spec as this one so the ring will fit

HUM---- SORRY but----- I have just been and checked my coupling, it has the exact same plate as the one you have sent picture of, and that is the range rating 2700 to 3500 of the coupling, for whatever trailer it is fitted to, whether it has one axle ------or three. i think they do next one down 2200 to 2700
BUT------it is not the rating of the actual trailer, For me though if the ministry stop me, and check at least it has that weight covered.
BUT I think you might have a different AXLE max loading ie lower than you think.
I am not saying it wont do it but it IS unusual.

As you can see they do rubber suspension axles up to 4000kg. I spoke to the factory ages ago and they told me it was either the 3500kg or 4000kg going by the size of the hubs. Sadly there are no markings on the axle that I can see.

Hi, That eye is OK with that pin because it pulls on the pin and brakes on the jaw. It doesn't really look heavy enough for use with a NATO pintle although it may go on. Is that a fixed eye? As you know the NATO should swivel if it is.

Are they serious?

Do you think a normal pin is ok with that hitch of mine or is there too much slack? Will the one you have fit ok?

Yes the ring I have will fit, I looked for it yesterday to measure but couldnt see it but to be fair didnt have a lot of time will try today.
On the ball/ pin hitches the bottom part of the jaw usually are a taper so as to tighten on the pin as the nose weight pushes down, and you pull on the pin as you brake the idea is that the pin doesnt do the braking, the root of the jaw does the braking as the ring nestles into that root.

It looks a lot bigger than a normal towing eye. I think my LandRover nato jaw would work if I could find the damn thing! The jaw itself swivels so a fixed eye not a problem.

The NATO ring has a internal diameter of 76mm so it should be easy to check

There are two Nato hitches - common type fitted to Land Rovers and then a larger version as used on lorries. There is a third type but that is just a different load rating to the others - not sure if it's the smaller or larger pattern.

Yes, I think lots of people get caught out with with this. In a picture the lorry ones look so similar.

Well having had a close look it is only 55mm internal. The pin looks lost in the hole but it is pretty tight against the front so not much slop. No need to change it! I wonder why there is such a huge gap behind the pint or are they all like that?

Probably to also be used on the hook on the back of a tractor.
