I dont doubt it is easier, but i dont think you understand my lack of ability in using computers!!

One assumes you need to install software? Usually goes wrong at that point.

I wish it wasnt so, but it is and increasingly a problem for me in the modern world

I bought a Creality CR10-S5 for a job at work, it's the 500mm cubed version... but they only fit a 300mm square bed heater so it's not great.
Will only print ABS parts if very small, most attempts have lifted and/or delaminated.
I've been advised to try PET-G as good compromise between ABS and PLA but not had another project.

Just ordered a Elegoo Saturn resin printer for my brother. Amazing detail on them. Prices have come down a huge amount due to swapping LCDs instead of UV lasers.

When drawing stuff I found it helps to make plenty of saves as you go along,
Draw the outline plan, save as v1, then as you add to the model save as v1.1, v1.2 etc.
If you make any big changes than save as v2.1 etc.

+1 I'm a sod when it comes to document control. I'm more the "sketch the design on site on the back of a fag packet with a Sharpie and then chuck it out the van window on the motorway".

Not btw that I smoke or condone littering!

I do try now and tag my 3D models with a date e.g

"Mak2Fer_001_20210615.dwg"

So first attempt at a Makita to Ferrex adapter, done on that date. I'm getting better after doing CAD for over 40 years now!

Aye, my son-in-law has recently bought a resin printer to add to his collection of toys. As you say, nice crisp detailing... although his first output was some kind of dancing banana figure

There's probably a guy somewhere looking at that and cursing at you using a lathe, drill and rotary table when back in his day he had fun hand filing it to a blueprint

I've always treated CAD as just a big sheet of paper / fag packet. Doesn't matter if you're drawing a...fag packet or battleship, just draw it full size.

My saving grace is I can think/sketch/draw in 3D.

In AutoCAD, I reckon I could teach someone the basics of 3D modelling within 5 minutes it's that simple.

EXTRUDE is the command to love.

This is the reason i dont have one. I have, quite literally, not the first idea what any of that means.

Id love to do this, but i just dont understand any of it. I still, after 3 years, donrt understand my smart phone. Certainly smarter than me.

And of course to print anything, one presumes you need a design. Which is more unfathomable software. Shame really as im quite good at dreaming stuff up and making it myself.

If I can ‘do’ CNC to a basic level then you will have no problems.

It’s a lot easier than you would think and software does a lot of the hardness for you. Much of it comes down to knowing the intricacies of the machine and ‘what to do when…’ which is just time in the seat and experience.

There’s a YouTube tutorial for about everything nowadays too.

A lot of people upload their designs for others to just take and use so you don’t even have to draw a lot of it at the start.
