morning what are you using for the Z axis drive i cant find the one they recommend on amazon

Was it the shaft length you couldn't find or the motor frame/power? Didn't have spec with me but thought they were available.

I haven't bought it yet as I drip feed the purchasing hoping she won't notice. But she will.

Just noticed my brother started a print for me but used infill. Does it need to be solid for strength?

Yes I'd go with the infill they specify for your material for the strength - and wall thickness too, 3mm - that part would be solid from the walls alone.

That looks like it from what I remember.

Think I'll use the hokey TB660 on the Z which will have an easy life and shell out for a proper one on the X.

I've spent £32 on filament so far on 2 rolls of PETG and might go into a third given my track record of failures so if it was £72 all in that would be a no brainer - but as mentioned above the extra costs would be a consideration.

Just an heads up. 3DQF should have some cheap PETG soon as they have installed a new machine that is able to extrude ABS, PLA and PETG.

Here's the back of the envelope calcs - 2000mm for the Y axis tubes and 1630mm for the X axis.

That leaves around 250mm spare on the Y axis which I'm not worried about overshooting, but I only left 100mm extra on the X as that will be more important to keep short. You'll have to double check my numbers, which I'll do again in the morning before cutting it.

Also is the very bad drawing of the arrangement I'm thinking of for supporting the end of the X axis - using a skateboard wheel instead of a naked bearing, just thinking it will be more sensitive to running over debris than the drive end.

Scratch the above drawing, the bracket will foul the travelling X assembly at full reach, so will have to be on an end plate rather than the side, but you get the idea anyway.

Yes I was definitely going to rig up an end support. Looks wrong without it.

Thanks, yes had seen that one and was considering the "bed of nails" instead of slats, but it would need around 700, so maybe not.

Very good concept and looks like it works well for him as a quick and dirty.

Yes it does seem to be pretty similar. JD's has an additional two axes plus some kind of THC in the pipeline.
