Isolation engraving is good for that, you don’t need a big machine and you can come by them quite cheap. I was selling one on here a while back. You can also get sticky copper foil and knife cut them but they need to be fairly chunky tracks.

You can (sort of) engrave metals with an expensive etching agent called Cermark. A poor mans version is wiped on fairy liquid - not recommending you try it (poss tube damage), but it worked on a bit of stainless. No idea on the science but something happened.

Isolation milling is painful, in my experience : (

If you want to be able to run traces between the legs of DIL chips, the cutter needs such an acute angle that it snaps as soon as you look at it. And then you get into multiple passes with depth changes.

Its all very possible, but just no fun, or at least it has not been for me. Alignment when you flip the board is a pig also.

I have cnc here, and, as i type this, have an order in transit from JLC.

But, i guess its way better than strip board for a 1-off quick job.

Yeah, there’s the machines I mess around with for prototyping really basic stuff in schools, then you can spend £40K on one to do that sort of thing repeatedly.

Cermark is horrifically expensive, Mustard works sort of, and so does Dry Moly but neither is perfect.
