I’m hoping to be looking at making my own chefs knife very soon

Iv got a new knife I just need a thicker handle


After this I want to make my own chefs knife around 9/10” blade

Slightly fftopic:, but with the legislation surrounding carrying a knife [rightly so, this is not in condemnation of that! ] but what about having a small one in a vehicle to cut a seatbelt if a person's life is in serious danger through e.g. fire?

I suppose this is the ideal solution, but I'm sure many won't be aware they are available so cheaply. Memo to self, buy one next week when in town

Be very hard to convict even harder to get cps to take such a case unless it was with other agrivation . Bad attitude towards the police ofgicer almost garsntees they try do keep it civil. Its a tool with a job and it remains in the place its to be used
A car is a public place believe it or not so you do need to be clear about your good reason ad to what it does and why its there

However certain knives are totally banned in the UK. Flick knives, butterfly knives and whatever the heck the court actually clarifies what a zombie knife is
Some can be posesed but not carried with good reason
Thats what happenes when you give mps chance to vote

Car. I am not aware of any spring steel that will stand a water quench. Most that state water quench like w2 should not be water quench in thinner stuff like knives..

Thier is a mindset that believes harder has to be better. Well a degree of truth as long as its not full of unseen cracks. However wait till it goes blunt and average joe " been sharpening knives since adam was a lad" type tells youtge knife you made cannot be re-sharpened ! And you know in a way he would be correct as regards to field sharpening

Blade length is around 4" normally on these. Handle maybe an inch less. The photo is from my back catalogue will be doing another batch shortly.
These are literally done by eye and at best a few chalk marks on the anvil face.. I also keep one back from a batch to act as a visual refference..
One of these hangs on the rigging of an old cutter / sailing boat and it gets to see a few things i bet, the guy messages me now and again says its the sharpest of knives he has had..

Yes all abive plus available time. Not into mass production though its something i do between gaits, staircsses, handrailings and regular fabrication and welding jobs . A dozen would be a big batch along with other more expensive designs in ones. Twos and threes etc.

Classic bowie started 01 tool steel through tang to fit the natural curve of the antler.. Thanks to an un-named member for the red stag (i dont have any here in Bowland).
Will be carrying a file worked iron guard and likewise pommel that i plan on threading onto the tang.

That Made in Japan is on bbc4 catch up. A family that makes traditional Samurai swords, one of them takes 2 weeks to sharpen it. They quench them in water as well. Cost a few bob though.

£10,000 iirc - they only make to order now, 2 or 3 per year, and the bulk of their income comes from knives etc.
