Temper colours on the big bowie balde podted earlier in the thread. God i hate totake them off in the finish grind.
That lovely straw and the blotchy purple / blue back (which adds toughness in use and flexibility under shock / stress) well odd the spots n patterns. From the " brut de forge" and it reminds me of a cock brown trout in its breeding colours .

That Made in Japan is on bbc4 catch up. A family that makes traditional Samurai swords, one of them takes 2 weeks to sharpen it. They quench them in water as well. Cost a few bob though.

The construction method of the metal gives more support in the quench but heck i bet when it does go " ting" you get to learn some real world Japanese language!!
