If you have the bearing out clean it in petrol ( in safety out side ) dry it and see if there are any feint fine etched markings on the outer edge of the side rims. If there are try photo'ing them and putting the photo up on this thread ,to see what the masses think as bearings tend to be in common multiples in millimeters if it is European made and some times in decimal parts of inches if it's Chinese and made for the American market ie not metric threads on screws & nuts .
. You can buy a cheap £15 hardened stainless steel F type Vernier caliper off eBay or such places . Have a look in Aldi & Lidl first this time of the year they might have them on the shelves or their websites in the tools area.

Nice one, thanks. I was trying to find some literature that would tell me which bearings were required before I stripped the motor down. 5 minutes this morning removing the two plates and I have two SKF 6206z bearings now on the way. Hopefully that solves the running true issue and I can make the grinder direct drive now.

Back to knives, here's another chopper I've done in the last few weeks from one of @hotponyshoes rasps. Took a fair bit of surface grinding to get the teeth off the rasp on one side.
Does the U shape cut out have a purpose

Just a large choil to make sharpening easier, the handle side of it acts as a guard.

It's a very addictive pasttime. I have tried to limit my time in the workshop from 9-5 (if I'm not at work), but sometimes I have something I think will take 5 minutes to finish off and ends up taking two hours.I like that, I have 20 of the things I got from the same source
It can be a fairly quick job to make a rough and ready chopper from the rasps if you have a belt grinder. I have done two side by side in three hours start to finish, but I was working fast.

Maybe. I dry my blade after cleaning it, in the crook of my arm. A big choil catches and ruins my jackets
Prototype#1 is beginning to look suspiciously like a pocket knife:
Next step is to use the newly acquired V block to drill a pivot hole. I also need to come up with a way of forming a thumbnail groove.
This little project have been all about problem solving. From sourcing a supply of cheap metal tubing of the correct diameter; this proved annoyingly easy. All I have to do is pick up litter in the form of those stupid little gas canisters found everywhere these days.
I also came up with a way of squaring the cut canisters using a jig. cutting the slot along the blade took some pondering too!

Been a while and thought I would update a little. Sold quite a few knives now and had a couple of commissions. Been forging more and I've had a commission for a Viking style bearded axe. I was a little nervous because the "correct" way to do it would be to do a wrapped eye and forge weld the bit in and I hadn't done much forge welding before but I have given it a go! I have it to rough grind, just need to do a bit more grinding to remove some weight and then it will go back into the forge for final straightening and finishing before heat treatment.

Must be something in the air....
Yesterday evening decided to finish off some no spin throwing knives that have been kicking about for a while now.
They are cut out of "annealed" quarter inch truck spring.
Being quarter of an inch thick (!) they need some substantial lightening holes in the handle for balance and to stop them sinking an inch deep in the target board.
It was a disaster! They are not fully annealed and my spurious collection of random drill bits won't touch it. It may be work hardening but on one occasion I ended up with a huge dimple pressed through one side where the drill bit just wouldn't bite. So I chucked it in the forge and punched the holes through with a drift. Yeah, ugly as sin and I'll have to open up the holes with a cutting disk. The other three blanks went into the forge, red hot and two left in there to anneal, one dipped in a bucket of vermiculite.
While I was doing that, it occurred to me I better finish this off so that I can claim it to be my first knife. Heat treated, O1 toolsteel, quenched in chip fat oil. Still arrow straight.
It is a copy of a Gough custom because I just love the look of the blade. It went glass hard so tempered in the oven at gas mark 6.
Reason I lost interest in this blade is I have two "precision" holes for fixing the scales and a load of "random" lightening holes.
...I stoopidly drilled two random holes right in front of the handle where it will show unless I extend the scales to cover them up which will make it look "bulky".
I'll do it anyway, not exactly an EDC anyway, no one's going to see it except you guys.
