I second that, leccy fan is the way to go, plus you put an override switch in to stop of flinging water around the engine bay whilst wadingKim have you thought about ditching the viscous and running an electric fan on a thermo switch???
Would release a few pony's and let the motor rev up faster???
Oh indeed, I'd never have been able to fit the belt with the fan on, it took two of us, it's so tight. It must be a lot easier to do the belt with nothing around the engine than trying to do it with the other stuff in place!
I had a thought about it but just assumed it's good from factory and on my partners so why can't it stay good now ?Kim have you thought about ditching the viscous and running an electric fan on a thermo switch???

Ben actually messaged me on here , we had a chat. His landrover will be amazing i'm sureKim you got an honourable mention on the latest funroverdotcom video on YouTube for your masking tape and hammer tip. This thread is gonna make you famous!
This is a good idea. I'll leave it standard for now I think and maybe once it's on the road and all sorted maybe i'll fit a big radiator and intercooler with electric fans, that'd probably improve power allot. Also would it be like loosing a flywheel weight taking it off ?I second that, leccy fan is the way to go, plus you put an override switch in to stop of flinging water around the engine bay whilst wading
Not at all, you lose fly wheel weight and you have to rev the beans out of it to keep momentum up, take the fan off it'll Rev a little freer as there is less drag, less drag on the motor = less power needed=less fuel usedOh indeed, I'd never have been able to fit the belt with the fan on, it took two of us, it's so tight.

I've just removed the viscous from my 300tdi disco and fitted an El cheapo fan
I've got some girlfriends that are like me. But thanks for the compliments and I'm from HertfordshireThought my partner was a one of a kind that's two females that don't use the. "I'm a girl" Though I think most people or age (22) boys and girls take that approach.
Lovely work well done impressive. . Where in the country are you based.
I didn't do it for the fuel savings tbh, or revving up a little freer, I just didn't want water throwing itself all over the engine bay when wading
Not too much of a problem for a diesel, not so good for a V8 where the fire goes out at the slightest sniff of damp.
When I washed my 2.25 petrol series 3 t'other day I thought the engine looked a bit mucky too so gave it a good hosing for a few minutes, while running.
Squirted all the dirty dusty goop off the distributor, coil, leads and plug caps.
Steam everywhere from the exhaust manifold, didn't miss a beat - just like it didn't during the 'apocalyptic' flooding a couple of years back...

Any car I've had and kept that's had a viscous I've chopped it off and fitted an electric fan kit,
They rev up so much faster lag feels reduced mpg up and it tidies up the bay.
As well as when switched is more controllable off road..
Anyway, an electric fan uses more or less the same energy to shift the same amount of air - that energy is still taken from the engine, just via a different (and arguably less efficient) route. Yes, ok, fan blade design makes a little difference, but really, not much...
