I think what I'm going to do is take a smaller wiring loom, then just buy the connector blocks (same as on the back of lights and make small extensions for the connectors. Will only need 7 extension peices. Which will save me probably £180. I think that's the best idea ? Does anyone think otherwise ?
I'll order it now if not

Hi Colin, That's a 300tdi one. The issue with buying second hand is there are so many different types. Even for a td5 there are loads of different ones

Stainless washers and fixings will sort it and easy to get hold of
Cost saving at time of manufacturing is the only reason they were not used from the off

Stainless washers and aluminium is a lethal combination especially if you throw a bit of road salt into the mix. Plastic washers are a good idea, the thicker the better for body fixings. Find what you can of a standard loom, anything is a help then make one up from what you have and some new wire. We ran caravan/trailer cable to the rear lights on my friend's series IIA. It's best to use something similar to standard colour code if you can for your own future reference.

Just found out the wiring loom was without VAT not even remotly amused. £480 :O I'm going to get some ice cream and cry into it lol

No I didn't but everywhere I looked was more expensive, I got discount to that price .
I've decided I'm going to order a load of pipe to go round the loom then cable tie it on so it doesn't rub on anything and damage again. No more issues this time I hope

Rubber hose, the loom will come in that but that wears through eventually

Cut the hose as a spiral and it'll be easy to install, and you can get all the branches out without having to chop it up.

There are many commercial solutions to sleeving cables. Spiral wrap is probably the cheapest, but there are woven varieties that you can pull branch cables through. There's even a zipper version:

Copaslip on the stainless will stop it seizing. BZP washers are also good against the aluminium.

Also try Vehicle Wiring Components for your connector blocks, or if they are weird Japanese ones Eastern Beaver in Japan are good.
