Insurance write offs come in categories A and B are scrap, S has some structural damage, and N is purely cosmetic. Be sure they have classified it as S or N before buying back.

Don't forget Cat C! Or does it no longer exist.

My 1983 2.0S Capri is Cat C. It has light front end damage from a square on, front end shunt (wasn't mine then). Wings, bonnet, valence, lights but when they added up all the panels if fitted new it was deemed cheaper to write off I guess.

Yes believe it was a 2004 built car registered 2005. It’s done 210000 miles.

I'd be fixing that myself and not claiming on the insurance. They obviously know about it now so I'm not sure how things progress from here, but as others have said if it does get categorised by them it needs to be a Cat S or ideally an N to put it back on the road.

Right so got in touch with the insurance today they have categorised the vehicle as a cat N total loss. I asked them about cash in lieu but typically at first they insisted they didn’t do that then insisted that as the vehicle was un drive able due to a chunk of red glass out the tail light they couldn’t do it.

So anyhow first valuation of the vehicle was a bit on the insulting low side and said they would keep 40% of the value if I kept the vehicle. I said I felt that was unfair as they hadn’t incurred any storage or transport fees agitate the vehicle bar a two day storage at a local garage who are cheap and a run back to my house instead of one off to an assessment Center. Though they again maintained it was a non negotiable %. Any how have managed to get a reasonable valuation now i had a bit of a fight that it had just had a mot and a lot of cash spent on it.

I could see that it's unroadworthy, not undrivable. there's a difference between the two terms.

I would tend to agree but they are sticking to their guns on it so yeah but cheap but hey ho
