That's grand, and is the way it should be.
Unfortunately, several bean-counters over the years in various places have decided that since the public power supply is so reliable the genset is an unnecessary expense, and sold them off.
There are now a surprising number of places without back-up power.
It's only people at risk though, so that's all right.
Or if they don't sell them off, they strip the maintenance budget to the bone, so the gensets fail to work in the event of a failure. Ipswich Hospital for example...
