That's grand, and is the way it should be.
Unfortunately, several bean-counters over the years in various places have decided that since the public power supply is so reliable the genset is an unnecessary expense, and sold them off.
There are now a surprising number of places without back-up power.
It's only people at risk though, so that's all right.

Or if they don't sell them off, they strip the maintenance budget to the bone, so the gensets fail to work in the event of a failure. Ipswich Hospital for example...

I believe most of the big houses in London are empty 8 months of the year, as the residents can only live there that long over the tax laws. But then if you are not paying in, you cannot complain about services etc. Michael Caine was complaining about the tax rates in the UK being too high, but then when he found his disabled brother in bad circumstances, he was moaning about that too. Cannot have it both ways.

Caine was talking about when tax was 95% or more so unless you was mega mega rich with the associated tax dodges the uk was unviable

This is exactly the issue when nobody sees the bigger picture. People buying £80K Teslas generate a load of polution in earning enough money to buy one, generate a load of polution in it's production. Most likely they get a new one long before they need to so reality is someone driving a 25 year old diesel is doing way less damage to the environment yet these people will tell what a difference they are making.

Well this thread has wandered a bit. But back to L Hamilton Esq.

I lost any notion of him ages ago, when he was 'partnered' with Nico Rosberg. Roseberg was having more success than Hamilton, more wins and fewer breakdowns. In one post-race interview Hamilton was inferring that NR was getting preferential treatment from the team, and actually used the phrase (and I quote) "Is it 'cos I is black".

Chip > shoulder > God complex....all imho, of course.

Rosberg was of course the most outrageous cheater in F1 history. Senna and Schumacher were at least a lot more subtle, Prost more of a thinking mans cheat but Rosberg takes the biscuit for being so blatant. I remember screaming at the TV with his "oops I'm going to have to block the track" :accident: at Monaco during final qualifying when Lewis was just about to set the fastest lap for pole (and the inevitable win). There were plenty of other tangles when it suited Rosberg, must be difficult when your team mate is simply better at everything.

As for the "inexplicable" and statistically abnormal reliability in Lewis's Merc, well once the German team got their German world champ, things immediately went back to normal.

The previous generation of Great British Drivers looked down their noses at the likes of Hill, Stewart etc.
Come to think of it, the amount of abuse heaped on Damon Hill by unpatriotic pillocks was astounding.

It's not a bad idea. The rest of this universe is largely exponential so these astronomically rich people ought to be taxed at an inverse exponential rate.

At the moment, the more money you have, the more money you can make and that really needs to be engineeerd so that the more you have the more difficult it gets.

I am sick of hearing about "managers" stuffing their pockets with millions while the company they are working for collapse into bankruptcy. While that's another argument (that will get this thread locked) it is an indictment of the current system where the rules are being made by the few, for the few.

A global economy with a one world government is what a lot are trying to sneak in the back door, the EU, the UN etc. Its not working though. Times change yes, rarely for the better.
