Load Leveller for engine crane

I got big Epco crane - lifted out countless engines with it - I go for chain and big shackles - and use pointed pry bar to adjust.

If I can't get it just where I want it - I use ratchet strap from engine to big lifting eye on Epco crane.

Yeah these load levellers - look loverly and I am sure they work a treat - but most things you can get the engine out without taking the bonnet off in real life - and you need a good down angle on the engine crane and the shortest chain to lifting eye your can get - and these adjustable levellers just add height.

Fortunately I have a an overhead beam with a chain hoist, height is not a problem. I took the engine out near level to start a few inches. little clearance on the floor pull it forward some inches and adjust the level, pull it forward again and adjust it again finally it came out with 45 degree angle with the auto box. As it was I broke a sensor made of unobtainium, I think I would done more damage trying extract it with an engine crane.

Hello, now if you had a 1970s Citroen DS it would be easy. The engine has a lifting eye by the water pump. The engine/gearbox come out at exactly the right angle. The worry is the eye is attached by three M7 bolts...

They look small - but if a decent grade, into decent threads, will probably lift the entire car away from the engine with no trouble.

As others have mentioned, it acts as a spreader bar, so the chains/slings to the engine end up being quite a lot shorter than they would have to be to clear everything and still attached to the crane hook - so overall, it doesn't actually add height - but does add an awful lot of ease to getting just the right angle of dangle, especially if you are trying to clear shiny paintwork, or stuff like steering racks you can't get to until the engine is out.
