Low flying chinooks

Anything police or military over here doesn't turn up on Flightradar, does it in the UK ?

I use this one; click on the U and it'll show only military air traffic. ADS-B Exchange

I use 360 radar, works out at £2 per month and shows everything

Surely if the military air traffic choose to turn off their civilian gadgets they won't show..?

We get all sorts flying over the house. Live at the bottom end of Machrihanish Air Base. I think I have a picture of Chinooks flying over in formation

Lancaster went over the workshop the other day,

Lancaster did a fly over of Ilkeston on 13th of June.

One of those was so low over here last year it got snagged in the 11kV power cables. They had to trailer it out....

Even military aircraft have to fly with their IFF switched firmly on and can (emphasis on can) be forced to land if inoperative (ask me how I know!).

War zones are different of course! (stands by for 'have you tried living in...'!)

You still have wooden framed, canvas covered aircrafts?

Seen a lot more activity over here the past weeks too.

Best memory though is, a few years back , at
girlfriends 20 year birthday. Phone calls, a familiar voice says "outside, 2 minutes, face south" . Exactly 2 minutes later a fighter squadron fly over very low, tip the wings a few times then climbs straight up, ignites the afterburners and disappeared into the clouds.

We get very few chinooks flying over stanta now. The ospreys seem to have taken over. They are incredibly noisy when in hover mode.

We live a few miles away from the former RAF base (now army) at Leuchars and I regularly see air traffic fly overhead but it doesn't show on the air traffic map I've linked to, nor on any of the other ones - so they must be able to 'hide' themselves (although not in a war zone) from internet type air traffic maps?

We regularly get the sas doing practice drops by us ,so very low,plus chinooks as we’re not far from the army ranges at sennybridge,we’ve had police and air ambulance land in our field,don’t very often have a camera handy,but on Monday,I did.
Doing a recce of the poles and cables.

Looks high up for cable checking - we had one come along the canal by work, amongst all the trees, so low the leaves in the car park were being blown around by the downdraft!

Chinooks are not very good off roaders though , getting stuck in mud

Two flying low yesterday evening - went overhead when I was driving near the Quantocks, Somerset.

I thought something was up with my van at first, until they got nearer then figured it could be chinook sound, and spotted them overhead coming from behind me!

Always great to see and love the sound

We were caravanning near Swaffham and about 11 oclock at night one of those flew over, very slowly and very low.......the lights made it look alien......I had no idea what it was but someone said they were based at Lakenheath just down the road.

Often see helicopters checking out the big pylons when I'm walking the dog. When one was really close a few years ago, I noticed its registration was G-WIRE

We had loads of Chinooks flying over during the lockdown. People said they were being used to set up the Nightingale Hospital in Harrogate.........havent seen any since and its been dismantled I believe.

They move all sorts you don’t even think about. When there’s a major incident and police have to have assistance from other forces it’s not unusual for them to hitch a lift on ‘crab air’

I can’t remember his name but there’s a guy on YouTube who comes up in my feed who videos them unloading near him. I think it’s Brize. There’s some odd stuff comes off them.

looking at the track on flight radar, there was a gap just about 3 mile each side of our village. I do wonder if they happened to have a transponder “malfunction” briefly.......
