I've brazed with mapp. You can help it out by getting fire bricks round whatever it is you're brazing to reflect and keep the heat in the workpiece. So it's OK for brazing then? I have a maybe job that I could do with brazing. Does away with the fact I don't have a mill.
or use broken up grey soft breeze blocks packed round the jobMAPP gas, and MAP-Pro are usable for brazing, but the part to be brazed needs to be surrounded with firebrick to keep the heat in.
Shop around for gas is the best I can say.
There isn't anything particularly special about a MAPP gas torch, except that it is designed to fit onto MAPP gas cylinders and has a different sized gas jet. MAPP gas gives a higher flame temperature than propane, leading to faster heating times for certain brazing and heating jobs.
And what happens to a MAPP torch flame when used on propane?
I often use a blowtorch to redden up small bits of o1 or silver steel for little jobs. The blowtorch i use is a big old bullfinch, so i was considering buying a mapp torch from screwfix (the handiest shop ever, so close to me). I was going to buy this Bernzomatic one as its half the price of a Rothenburger. Anyone use one ?

I've had that bernozomatic torch for a few years now. I use it for occasional soldering of pipework and big cable lugs, shrinking heatshrink, and generally heating stuck bolts etc. Plus of course setting fire to anything and everything I possibly can.
It has faired me well being thrown around in the Landrover and other vehicles and is still working fine.
