MAPP gas torches

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the loop carries the high voltage wire for ignition from the trigger to the nozzle. I cannot see how this alone will make the torch 2x better than any other configuration. In any case, Bernzomatic specify this torch for use with propane or MAP-Pro gases.

I won't really recommend javac map torches (esp if you are relying on the self-ignite feature while up a ladder in a deep-freeze) one i have also has a flexi-head (with a fall-off nozzle)
My rothenberg one is good but on a lend and they cost a small fortune to replace.
I'm not really an expert mapp brazer like some. Mostly find it worth getting the oxy-acet out in the end after not being able to do it.

Oxy propane is the way forward. It’s a big step up from mapp gas and not To much more in cost than the eBay link.

I don’t use it that often but it’s a good when you have to

you can even cut with it. Far safer. The only negative is that if you get a leak then propane will find the low spots. Acetylene wouldn’t.
I have oxy propane and use it quite a bit. No real need for acetylene.

ok, maybe the ones without a loop have the same temp as the looped one then, but they both should be 2x faster than the regular propane torch, plus the built in igniter is still better than without it, lol

if it has that loop in the bottom, then it should be better than the ones without the loop and 2x better than a regular propane torch:

both gases should still give the same exact temperature with the loop torch tho, so only the price should really matter

For a given torch, the propane flame temperature will always be cooler than that obtained with MAPP. Propane burns about 50degC cooler in air than MAPP.

Look at the Bullfinch Autotorch brazing system . If i knew how the do a link to Bullfinch i would. The bullfinch abs will braze using only propane i've had one for 30+ years even brazed a old motorcycle frame.

no problem brazing with a propane torch whatsoever depending on the size of the nozzle and u can retain the heat with fire bricks or broken up grey breeze blocks packed round the article

My previous one I wrote down the full and empty weights so this current one is just under half full after quite a bit of use. I think you just had a bad bottle, possible some dishonest customers could return them as theres no seal.

I'll try a Rothenberger next time as Zoro does them at a better price, its a good basket filler for free delivery.
Weights listed are the same, 400g gas, 850g total.

The Zoro Rothenberger ones arrived today, in a very soggy box! Looks like parcelforce rejected them, as being gas bottles, so they sent by someone else.
They are slightly lighter, 869 grams full.

I saw in toolstation prices have dropped, £10.60 for propylene while propane is £8.60 and got one of them to compare.
In 2012 I got a mapp substitute and it burnt differently, had to shorten the flame tube, but with the current mapp/propylene it needs the original length and burns the same as propane, but hotter?

I now have three full bottles and if I had another burner I could get twice the heat into difficult items. My Bernzomatic torch was a basic cheap "swirl flame" £16.99 b&q one, looks discontinued. Where can I get another cheap one?
Do the more expensive ones have a better flame, or all very similar?

what is the minimum regulator pressure where the Mapp torch starts to lose it's maximum temperature already? aka how many bars pressure does it need to keep it's maximum temperature/efficiency that it was designed for... if you take it out from the big bbq tank... and how many bars is the actual tank itself when its full?

Mapp/propane/butane etc are stored as liquified gas. The bottle pressure wont drop * until the liquid is gone and then itll drop very fast. The way to measure it is weight, unless the bottle lets you see liquid volume.

*If you ignore the temporary pressure loss at high discharge from freezing the bottle.

Liquid propane is around 145 psi in normal conditions, butane about 30psi - so lighters can be plastic.

so it's like 10 bar and the torch itself can use maybe max 4 bar then, because thats what most of the regulators are rated at? or some Mapp torches have their own built in regulators too and could work fine at 2 bar too? and how much can the orange hose take?
