Mig welding thin metal and distortion

They (Edd China) did show the use of some heat absorbing goop, looked like a cross between wall paper paste and porridge. Was built up about an inch away from the weld and would take up (by evaporating the moisture in it ?) the heat. just a thought.

Tried similar from Frosts some time ago, never found it much use, maybe didn't use enough.

If I recall he put about an inch wide and 1/2" thick wall around the weld area and it was about 1 inch away from the weld.

Someone on the Mini forum recommended the welding paste and seem to suggest it did it's job. I think it is reusable up to a point. We have been using a chunk of copper (about a fiver on eBay) as a heat sink, but it obviously only works when you can access the rear of the panels you are welding.
