just interested F/J have you ever use the closed root technique?? was having a go on some 2" and although I could just about control the burn through, found it impossible to get the crater to close in just right, I'm sure there a trick using a back purge someone once told me, anyhows I'm no pipe welder so more likely thats the issue

snowy not on m/s now and again on light stainless, that guy engaloid has shown its possible, i suppose a knife edge or just a bit of practice and 6010 will perform well. id be interested in any input myself as regards purge. f/j

been back to the incinerator job snagging, this bend was a replacement , one in one out, the existing bend had a 1/2 inch vent pipe attached, this being high temp steam the engineers wern,t wearing it , its ch/mo f/j

As a matter of fact I do, but in the H&V trade where valves etc are either screwed or flanged with the flanges bolted to the appliance/valve. Weld on valves are more petro-chem or high pressure applications.

Very very nice work, its so clean it looks like a machine did it. I would love to watch your technique, that is if you didn't live half the world away from me I can tig but not that good, one question though,when your in position how long of a bead can you get before you have to stop and adjust? Oh another question what technique do you use for vertical and overhead?

thanks again lads, mr pepper this is some 5g tig, thermal oil 4 ins, it looks like a couple of inches travel to me, i would need to shift position after that. f/j
