runnach thanks for that pic, every thing you mention seems to come back from their conversations, thats the first time iv,e actually seen the rig. they say it was a welders graveyard boys arriving to test out then back home, i could be wrong but the term queen arc sticks in my memory, as regards the rods ,it was i believe a stick root so possibly this was a 6010 rod i stand to be corrected.you mention your dad and concrete, these old timers told me that they poured concrete leaving all the plant equipment to be covered, something to do with the timescale. they also mentioned some boy lighting a cigarette with a 10 note for the newspapers , this didn,t go down too well back here as the boys didn,t make a habit of telling the other half their earnings

Any more pictures of the things youve been making f/j.
we do things similar to what you do but we do it with polyetholene pipe (plastic), normally yellow for gas. we do alot for donkins which used to do stuff like you do with flanges etc etc. but they have moved onto mostly plakky pipe.

Hi F/J cant comment on welding specs, doubt my dad would have a clue about the welding side of things, correct about the kit left inside, pic you see has a JCB plus other sand moving equipment inside for keeps, ballast was always bing ajusted as build progressed. Also correct about lighting up with tenners, also nearly every night a car driven by a well oiled bear leaving Loch Carron Hotel would end up with their motor off the road and, in the loch, those were the days eh!!!!!!!
