Millwaukee 12v Vs Air tools

You have a battery one? Told you yesterday... Well go and get it then. Anyway he started using it and is now strongly considering changing all his tools to Milwaukee based off 5 minutes with that grinder.

I do wonder what some people fill their time with, I often get people marvel at things I have because they didn't know you could get one.

Many old ways are good but people don't seem to be able to differentiate what new stuff is good, I know people who wouldn't buy a diesel because they are slow/noisy and smelly. It's the same with battery grinders, so many people have this belief that they can't do a proper job but if you've got enough batteries and a decent brand there is no issue. If you something like the Dewalt Flexvolt it's a beast

More importantly why is someone who does concrete slabs going to any job without a grinder?

Funnily enough it was the safety catch on the grinder he liked most.

He did have a grinder but its mains and he's the kind of person to borrow tools rather than his own... . General purpose builder rather than dedicated concrete guy.

Anyway having picked up his Makita 1/4" driver it just doesn't feel as robust or high quality as my Milwaukee.

Horses for courses, air tools still win for size/weight and durability. I've got the big Dewalt impact gun but if I was doing loads of stuff near the airline I would use my CP air impact, it's lighter and less cumbersome. I have a small Hydrovane so I don't have the noise issue normally associated with a compressor

If you are having to make special provision for air then batteries will win.

Battery technology has come on loads in the last few years

Why go 12v?

Personally, I'd just get the 18v setup.

MacGregor's welding department in inverness is usless there is never anyone there. Have to admit thier ground care section is fantastic by comparison. The battery chain saws are impressive for thier size and the best bit is you dont have 2 stroke fumes belching in your face. But you cant beat petrol for bigger stuff still.

There is one advantage to battery i for got, with battery there is no compressor noise, no tool exhaust noise on top of the noise the tool makes plust the noise of what ever its doing.

Bought a massive 270ltr compressor and a bunch of air tools a year or two ago.

The compressor gets used for blowing stuff off or pumping tyres up, that’s about it. Everything else is battery, Wil****ee M18 & M12.

Is that the hi torque ratchet? How you getting on with it?

As for Milwaukee compressors, I’ve the m18 one for tyres. It’s great. You set psi and leave it so you aren’t next to the tyre which is a bonus. It’s got no free air so you couldn’t use tools on it.

I had a t Max before which was good but sold it to fund the Milwaukee one. New they are same price if you buy a naked unit

Winchboy uses 12v Milwalkie, I just borrow his (and leave it with a flat battery) they are excellent and compact

Right so millwaukee 12v is the winner,

Probably looking at getting the new higher torque 1/2 compact impact, 3/8 short and extra long ratchet and right angle impact, 1/4 ratchet, right angle die grinder and possibly straight though will see if i can manage with the right angle to start with, riviter, grease gun, drill possibly the one with interchangeable chucks to get into awkward spaces and cut off tool. Dont see me needing anything else but it be pricy all the same the 1/2 impact will be the last to be replaced.

Yeah and I didn’t want to sell mine but for what I do the Milwaukee was better. Not overall, just better for me doing what I do

That's the new m12fraiwf38 angle impact, been wanting one since its release date at the start ot August, that was put back till 5th October but I found a plumbing shop on ebay who had one that have ordered in June! First day using it today and its seriously impressive. There is a seller on ebay selling North American spec ones for £250 but you don't be able to register the warranty. Sgs engineering have the 1/2 version In stock

Air still has its place IMO, I wouldn't want to be without my big pneumatic CP impact - but that place is the workshop.
For your scenario, mobile site work, battery would be the only way to go.

However, I would consider the 18v line up unless you really need the agility of the 12v system. There is typically wider variety and heavier duty gear on 18v.

I do have metabo 18v tools already and i like them a lot but im debating changing to millwaukee or someone else as the high torque metabo impact is a bit of a wimp in comparison to the other manufacturers only 600nm and they do not offer a 3/4 verison which i think i will probably end up needing eventually. Having said that love my metabo tapping drill, 400nm impact and grinder they are the bees knees and the battery's last for ever on a charge. Have the lithium ion hd batteries for them. I have some dewalt stuff for building work but i have heard thier impacts arent really up to the job usually breaking or failing after no too long.

Cool. It’s good to know it’s another good tool. I’ve pre ordered the m18 version but looking at that I’m tempted. £149 at sgs ex vat
