Will sent me some pictures. He’s finish boring wheels and grinding shafts after turning down
This was another steel crisis added cost I didn’t expect. I couldn’t source decent h7 shafting steel and I rejected the en16 I took a chance on buying because it was .1mm under so I’ve bought oversized to machine down.
I enjoy giving the lad work as it’s helping on his journey to become a master

@pressbrake1 Hi Clive, can you remind me what the size/throat is on these, wanted to work out max panel size I could use one for. Was trying it find the original thread but can't locate it.

Precision grinding the spindles . Who else would be this pedantic

top wheel dead centre ground on the shaft to give sub micron run out but obviously the bearings will ruin this

He is a grinding specialist so very fast for .0003 , pretty fast for 0001 and quicker than you’d think for tighter than that!
A grinder man will be quicker to .0005 than on a lathe
Less time than it takes to strip, clean, paint and reassemble a manky vice...
I’m with you Mr Sheep, love the engineering and accuracy. Tonight I assembled and for the first time used my new Chinese extended brush (with inline detergent dispenser). Predictably it dispensed most of the detergent down my leg, down my arm and over my feet, followed by litres and litres of detergent free water. The contrast couldn’t be starker.

I know there’s a time and a place for everything, so maybe I shouldn’t be too hard on my ‘that’ll do’ machining but…
For those swimming in the deep end like that to be able to have the skill and confidence to turn out something that perfect, and be able to measure it to prove it. Without five trips to the kettle and a lay down afterwards. Hats off…

Drove the 170 round hour to wills last night to pick up spindle no1 .
Precision ground spindle and wheel and axes are better than .0001 for square, yes I’m mad but these are legacy pieces

Just noticed my self righteous iPhone changed trip to hours!
If I had the money I'd buy one of these just for the privilege of owning a proper piece of engineering.
(It'd be criminal for an oik like me to actually try and use it mind, cos anything I managed to produce would be an insult to the equipment )
