Must admit it does make a good dog bedHi, Something appears to have taken up residence or was it there when you got it?
Colin
It’s not supposed to have a 1275, it’s supposed to have a 998, which we’ve already got and had rebuilt, however we’ve had it rebuilt and tubes by a company called John speed it’s also now got a straight cut gear box. I’ll have to see if I can find the spec sheet View attachment 231111View attachment 231112
ExactlyCooper S head with the extra stud? Looks to be blocked off
We bought the engine a while ago with all the bits and bobs for £150 so we just had it assembled and jonspeed upgraded it where they saw fit they suggested what cam and thatAnd why did they feel the need to fit such a massively ported head to a 998? You'll have no torque at all at the bottom end, but depending what cam they've used you may have a good top end. And why an Aplus?

I’ll find the spec sheet some time for you to seeFair enough, but bigger isn't allways better. A little while ago I was asked to jet a Weber 45 on a road mini. Fair enough, whats the spec? Would you believe 1380 with a 296 cam, big valve, ported etc. Now I could take a guess based on previously used jets, but really, that was a race spec engine, on the road. No manners below 3500 or even 4000rpm, dreadful mpg, noisy, not likely to last very long (due to borewash), hard on clutch, tyres, gearbox, and ears. I told him to let me know when he required a rebuild, I'd be fitting a tamer cam and a pair of twin 11/2s.
He never came back though...
In about 1970, I was offered a 1293 ex rally Cooper S, it had the straight cut box, twin tanks, but the shell was knackered, it had a twist in. The front was square to the road, but one rear corner was higher than the other. It was offered to me for silly money, I can’t recall how much but I think it was about £125. I looked into it, went into the insurance broker & asked how much. “You could insure an E type Jag cheaper” I thought I’d rather have the E type, with the result I’ve had neither.
Either of them were worth not a lot then, but a small fortune today, but hey ho, such is life.

We have also stripped and started to clean the front subframe View attachment 231114View attachment 231115View attachment 231116View attachment 231117View attachment 231118View attachment 231119As you can see it’s got a slight bend that needs straightening

It’s either a trolly jack or a rock as before it was a rod rally car it was a rally car about 15 years ago.been attacked by a trolley jack, dog needed positioning better for full artistic effect!
