Biggest issue with any full fat Transit is rust.
2.2 ironed out quite a few of the issues the 2.4 had.
Given it's one of the most common vehicles I had to work on, I can't really think of anything out with usual servicing/wear and tear that really failed.
Early ones had oil pump issues, but that should have been done as a recall if affected.
EGR valves, but they were far more reliable than the older 2.4, although they are more of a pain to change.
Timing chains do wear, but unless it fails catastrophically, it'll usually flag up as bad starting due to crank/cam sync failure.
We have had to do a couple cylinder heads for one customer, but given their vans regularly suffer from seized bonnet locks, I don't think head failure is entirely a Ford fault.

not sure what it means other than Light Delivery Vehicle believe it was part of british leyland then a management buy out then went bust

If it is like the works one I was once in.
If the windscreen is replaced it will leak.
The side trims will come off.
The bonnet catch will not work.
It will eat breaks on the rear end if you regularly carry weights.
But if serviced before the miles stated it can be ok.
But I would take a Renault or a Vauxhall.

funny you say that I sent him a link to a coach for a few grand, I said he could even live in there it was that big
I have had Vans for about 40 years now and the best Vans I have had was the "Petrol" Sherpa ( the Diesel Sherpa not so good as they moved not accelerated.)I moved onto transits about 25 years ago. My present Van is a 2008 Transit I have had it since it was 18 months old. Every year for the MOT for the last 5 years it needs new metal brake pipes(Not the same ones lol) Last MOT advisory on the Rubber brake hose from wheels to frame. It never ends. The Glow Plugs packed in about 5 years ago. Not bothered replacing them. Had Alternator couple of years ago. On the bright side in the 10 years I have owned it, It has Never been serviced ! I do change the Oil every 3 years and its still has the same Fuel Filter fitted that it came with !. It has done 130,000 miles. However I was thinking of changing it to another one about 18 Months old but these new Jap Looking Transits in my eyes look CRAP. So I might change makes.

DVLA have tightened the rules for reclassifying so only coachbuilt now seem to pass the requirement and everything else is "van with windows".

If that's the same engine as I have in my 2.2d Jaguar X Type, then I can't speak highly enough of it. I did over 240k miles in mine with barely a problem (a couple of EGR valves early doors and a clutch every 100k).
Can still be done after jumping through a number of hoops.
Biggest issue now is anything under a hitop is a no no including poptops

You don't actually need to get it reclassified by the DVLA to avoid the van speed limits. (The DVLA even say as much on their web site.) As long as it is a "motor caravan" in law, and is under 3050kg unladen weight, it isn't one of the classes of vehicles subject to the lower speed limits. You do, however, have a legal obligation to inform the DVLA of any change to the body type (e.g. to Motor Caravan), even if they don't agree with it!
Speed limit law is in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Part VI (as amended)
The lower speed limits for "particular classes of vehicles" is section 86, and they are listed in Schedule 6 of the act.
Schedule 6 in turn refers to Regulation 2(1) of the "Motor Vehicles (Type Approval) (Great Britain) Regulations 1979" for a definition of "Motor Caravan" which it specifies as:
(The default speed limits for other roads come from The Motorways Traffic (Speed Limit) Regulations 1974 and the snappily named "The 70 Miles Per Hour, 60 Miles Per Hour and 50 Miles Per Hour (Temporary Speed Limit) (Continuation) Order 1978")
It seems likely that the body style registered with the DVLA would be used by police for speed enforcement in a computerised system (like ANPR) but you may have to argue that whatever the body style on the V5 that if a vehicle answers the above description then the higher speed limits should apply (subject to unladen weight <3050kg.)
The Dart crossing & Mersey Flow tolls have similar definitions of 'Motor Caravan' that don't rely on the DVLA body type.
