The other advantage to getting one reregistered as a motorcaravan is the change in MOT class, meaning any testing station can do it.

"Motor Caravans’ or re-registered campervan conversions are subject to class IV MoT test whereas goods vehicles between 3000 and 3500 KG are subject to a class VII test."

Other than that and the increased speed limit and possibly reduced ferry fees etc I'm not sure if its worth the hassle and I probably wouldn't bother trying to get my next conversion reclassified.

That is very interesting, and explains why when I've been through a couple of tolls I was charged a lower rate. My Transit had side windows, but tinted so you couldn't see in.

Actually, the DVLA body type doesn’t matter for MOT, either - vehicles are tested ‘as presented’. If it looks like a ‘motor caravan’ to the tester, it should be tested as such.

I think that the automatic toll for the Dart crossing used (or used to use) the taxation class to decide the toll: N= goods vehicle, M= passenger vehicle, unless someone has rung them up and logged the reg no as a camper. Other tolls may do likewise.
