Well I'm getting somewhere now, I have consistent reasonable looking welds.
Vertical up, uphand with a 'C' motion facing downward.
Turns out I was using crappy gear, I borrowed a big fat kemppi machine, 200a but the size of a fridge, an hour later I had tidy welds.
Dc electrode - about 70 amps, at first I was getting drips at 85a, but eventually improved after a box of 2.5mm 6013's.

Nicely done. It’s good to keep at it and challenge yourself with those difficult positions
You never know when it’s gonna be needed. Like you’ve found out with MMA the characteristics of the machine and quality of the electrodes makes a huge difference. I’d dare say probably more so with MMA than any other process from my experience.
