I’m using the gun directly from the compressor. Not with regulator at compressor end. Just mini regulator on the gun. And the desiccant filter before the regulator. I swapped to the spare desiccant filter I had. Its purple rather than pink. No good when the desiccant material goes pink.

I’ve had a closer look at the solvent pop. I can see straight through to the primer in places. Its fish eye. It will be substrate related then, I’d say. I wet sanded then panel wiped with degreaser and a fairly dirty lint free cloth. I’ll grab a fresh lint free cloth tomorrow and give a long time for the degreaser to flash off. I expect parts of the paint were still damp from wet sanding. I didn’t wait that long before paint after sanding.

I just rechecked the cleanliness of the gun. There was all sorts of crap in the cap and the fluid way. I opened the fan up to about 1/4 and kept adjusting the fluid. Didn’t make any difference to coverage. I kept adjusting the fan. Wound it all the way in. Got a circle with a run at the bottom. I found out that I only need to open the fan about 5-10 minutes. Much less than 1/4 or 1/8 of a turn. If it’s at that I can get just under a hand span fan. If I try to open it any wider than that, the coverage isn’t any good. I’ll just adjust the fluid now so I don’t get a run on 1 second test.

I think I’m never going to get enough material through this gun. If I wind that fluid needle out without adjusting the fan any wider surely I should be able to get runs. I think I’m going to have to buy the slg 610. I tried to find a video about this gun. In my YouTube search a harbour freight gun in America is shown. It’s the spitting image of mine. The guy testing it cannot get enough coverage even with the fluid needle all the way out. Next he tries a $200 Sata gun and the coverage is perfect. I’m pretty sure that if I try to paint with my gun, I’m going to end up with runs from moving it too slowly. Also I think because the fluid build up is only in the middle of the fan pattern, I’m going to get lines of light orange peel and then lines of severe haze. I’ll try the basecoat through my other guns. I have 1.5, 1.8 and 2.2mm tips. Is there anywhere open today where you can click and collect that sells that devilbiss gun? I’m in Gloucestershire.
