How do you feel about it?

Looking back, a great bourdon was lifted off my shoulders. We never really own anything, just have use of things while we are here in this world, however, many things require upkeep, maintenance, insurance etc. Unfortunately I spent a lot of my time working just to support those things. Maintenance of the property alone cost me a month out of my life every year in time alone, so, the only thing I miss is the sunny weather.

I’m in exactly the same boat at the moment, i have no idea how I accumulated so much crap! Dreading moving the lathe

I was the same I gave a lot of things away and sold dozens of cycles I really didn’t want to

@mtt.tr mentioned Iv gone this way so moving is faster with less daft trips

Have i ever needed or missed those "useful" things. No Never

But i do now have a useful room thats my home office

When we moved in here 19 years ago we put a load of boxes from the previous house into the loft. They are still there, unopened. We have made the decision to do the same as @Parm and dump them without looking. If we didn't need them in the last 19 years........

Rest assured I’ve got more than 17 things and more than my fair share of crap, but not in that room.

next on the hit list is the downstairs middle room. Gonna bring that back to life

I was recently talking about how fast the last 20 years have seemed to have gone by, and have been thinking that if I have 20 "good" years left, I want to streamline life by letting go of unnecessary duplicate items and tools, and only keep what will be useful on a regular basis. Tough decisions for sure, but better to start sooner than later.

we have rooms in our house we’ve not been in for 20 years, full of “stuff” plus all the stuff in the barns and sheds.

have begun a clear out …. Biggest stuff is easy, sold 10 tractors, two bikes and a Land Rover this year. Probably all at way below market, but they’ve gone.
Some big stuff with huge connections to the past …. Like The LELY Victory combine I was given on my 18th birthday is gunna be tough. Deciding what to keep so difficult.
The barns and house is going to be an even greater challenge.

We moved here 20 years ago. We still have unopened boxes, I have a clear out every year nearly and still manage to fill three sheds and a loft

Got to clear our old house and workshop.

Everything from my workshop is getting moved, and sorted, so much useful stuff I'm missing.

From the house ? A Welsh dresser I made, and that's about it maybe the L shaped sofa, the rest ?

Its tough alright, but you will get the feeling of a new found freedom.

I must admit it’s made me think about the things I currently have and the £75 a month on a small unit with a mate for ‘stuff’ it’s going to be condensed and what I feel is useful I will keep it not it’s going to be sold, given away or skipped

When I think back, (which I can a long way...), one of the happiest times of my life was when I lived in a one bedroomed static caravan on a residential site and rented a double garage with power 100 yards away - life was so simple - almost "efficient"

It’s a strange dichotomy. When we have stuff, we don’t want it, when we don’t have it , we crave it.

Was only thinking the other day, when we moved into our house 20 years ago, my workshop was a body off an old BT Sherpa van, it was rammed but I could still get in there and find everything. Even had a Boxford lathe in there

All my spannering, welding and fabrication was done outside on a gravel parking area and I got loads done.

10 years ago I built my garage, it's 30m² with a small 5m² extension and it's full, productivity has dropped but that could be cos life has got busier but still can't help thinking it could be simpler

Talking about productivity I find having everything within reach makes all the difference!

Organisation does also help, As soon as something isn’t easily accessible it slows any job down I personally find
