Sorry for the ramblings
Ramble away, I find it all very interesting
Sorry for the ramblings
I was on STW at one point but don't think I ever posted much if anything.I had the original coil Pikes circa 15yrs ago - classic forks! So smooth - and you can/could, to a limited degree, compensate for rider weight with a heavier spring - but nowhere near as flexible as air.
Funny though, once you get past a certain rider weight some suspension manufacturers recommend you use air; chap I've met a few times (@Munkul were you ever on Singletrackworld forum?) wanted coil suspension but had to use air! This was a few years ago so things may well have changed.
I know exactly what you mean. I always start with a budget of, say, £400, stretch that to £600 because I don't like the cheaper groupsets, then start looking at used bikes because I can't afford anything I like the look of new, and even then I have to persuade myself to stick to that budget; I don't really need a GRIP2 damper and Di2 shifting, and I do really need to eat and pay rent.
yeah I noticed there's not much stock of anythingWhichever bike you choose, the issue will be getting hold of one as bike shops have been doing almost unprecedented trade since lockdown and have been struggling to get hold of new bikes and they anticipate a lag in supply as the Far East recovers.
Went to my transition cycles in Bedford the other day and they had loads of bikes in stock it would be worth ringing round and asking them what they have in stock
Sorry to hear the bad news, It's always a thought on my mind & having my tools nickedCan’t believe it!
I go to my shed today and find it’s been broken into and my Bike stolen. I’ve literally only had it 2 weeks!
They had closed the shed back up so it wasn’t even apparent. It was only just when I went to get get something out that I even realised
The pike is a good fork, but to me the Fox 36 Van with the old RC2 damper was the best fork I've ever ridden. You really can't beat coil for plushness.Hence, to me the benchmark fork is the Rockshox Pike, it's more than enough fork for the average Joe like me, and will work on every bike.
fox 36 is top of the pile, I agree I've never tried an RC2 damper. But you pay for it! And its a heavier fork. The Pike hits the sweet spot in performance, weight and cost, but that's just my opinion. The pike is a good fork, but to me the Fox 36 Van with the old RC2 damper was the best fork I've ever ridden. However the DVO Onyx on my Dune is the best fork I've ridden for a long time. It does take a bit experimenting to get set up, and it does feel a bit different to other forks, but once you get it dialled and used to it, it's a brilliant fork.
I need new forks for mine but there expensive even second hand
what are you fancying?
@Shox Dr whats your favourite dave?
