Gearbox now in primer.
All oil ways have been cleaned and polished.
All threads have been cleaned.

Made a start on the gearbox components. A light polishing.

Your stuff always looks so clean, How do you remove the brown tarnishing on machined surfaces mines got quite a bit of tarnishing,
It doesn't stop it working just dont look to good

Big shaft and gears next. I removed all gunge and crud but not finished.

Main gear shaft in done on the outside. Now to clean and sort the inside....

Inside now clean and lightly polished.
Thought I'd post a few pictures of why it's so important to go to these lengths. On this shaft one of the Oilers was blocked solid. Not good. So check ya oilers guys...

Today I started the repair work on the tumbler case....

I will do. I was on going to just flatten any rough bits. But couldn't stand it like that

The tumbler mechanism is done. There is still a very small line but nothing that's going to cause problems

That gearbox reminds me of the gearbox on that huge drill I was working on, one of which you own too! The clunk of each gear aligning was so pleasing, extremely heavy - no confusion as to whether it had gone in!

Yes they are very pleasant to use. And as you say the clunk. Proper means gearbox lol

A few updates before I done my back in. I sorted the tumbler gear. Took a while to stone it down. And finished the rest of the tumbler parts.

Also I eventually got the apron stripped down. I got the step son and his friend to lift it on my outside work bench. It took me ages as I cant stand for to long and even taking the gears out is a mission when ya cant move to well....my bench is full of parts. Every came apart nice except one part.. unfortunately some one else has done a repair or should I say tried and fk it up.. the handle that operates the gear to slide or surfacing is held in place via a taper pin. Someone has beat the crud out of it and bent it . Also fracturing the the handle. Looks like they tried to drill it and gave up. The other end of the shaft is also cracked because someone has drilled a hole and drifted right through to the outside of the handle.....why I dont know....so a new out handle/case is going to be need making.

Morning guys.
This will be the last post for a while regarding the Harrison lathe restoration. I had a bad fall the other week resulting in a partially slipped disc. And old injury from my ground work days. So currently cant lift or do f all. I can walk to the shed but that's about it...
