@spencer 427 Just out of interest, what's the most 'project's you've juggled at the same time in the past? Just seen your thread about starting on the 'new to you' Monarch.....
Four or five. Always have plenty to do. If I am waiting on consumables or stuff. I can carry on with one of the other projects.@spencer 427 Just out of interest, what's the most 'project's you've juggled at the same time in the past? I didn't on this half. I blue it up just to see what's what. The hinge points tell me most of what I need to know.Looking good, did you measure the wear before you started, Doesn’t look horrifically bad?
There is a lot of original scraping Mark's on the compound slide. And on the tailstock. The four counterbores hold four big bolts and springs. There is a big plate that fits over the top and that holds the cutting tooling. I will put it together so you can see.Looking at the pics I'd say that there's likely naff all wear on that machine. It might have been commissioned to do a specific job (at serious money) and left parked up not getting subjected to the normal rigours of production work but cosseted during it's limited working life. That last pic shows what is probably the remnants of the original scraping from when it was built.
What was bolted to the compound? Those four counterbores with two scotch keys each look incredibly purposeful, like they were holding down a grinder head or something.

She is a big lump. Two man lift on the tailstock. That tail stock is bigger than my lathe!
I found a couple of pictures pete that shows the tool post arrangement View attachment 196406 View attachment 196407 View attachment 196408
That's the empire lathe. I will get a tape measure out and show you. What’s the compound off next to the Harrison one? Trying to work out scale.
Yer she a big lump. But the top half is finished. Bottom half next. The compound is bigger than most cross slides!
It looks to be scraping in nicely though
I use duck oil. Especially if they sit around for a few weeks. Just give em a spraying with that.
