Thanks, I thought negative pressure could draw in contaminents, but see your point about the fumes.

I don't think the pressure is a great deal lower but just enough to fumes escaping, I think also with positive pressure it would probably blow the doors open

Think the paintshop was built about 96/97 and was designed for water based and solvent systems, I know airbourne and waterbourne pollutants are VERY strictly controlled, they have to be monitored constantly and local council has access to the readings!

it would be nice to have spare room for a booth, just in case you needed it, the guy that was next door to us had a booth, he restored scooters and he worked in there in winter with a small heater on, nice and bright and cheaper to heat then a full workshop
I dont want to p&&*( on your parade but I built a booth with a massive fan and 18 inch ducting, had massive battles between shifting air and heating the booth up. In the end i gave up to be honest. The unit was expensive and I was naeive I was told the booth was too low and they guy I had working would rather paint out of the booth , than in it so the whole place got over spray. And nextdoor got ****** off as the fumes went next door. In the end I decided I was not up to running that type of business and tried something else...lol

I think with that type of set up all you can do is pre heat the booth, turn the heat off, paint let the air clear, turn off the extraction and re heat to let the paint cure faster
Snooper that's exactly what I had planned on doing . That's how the painter in the other unit dose it and his work still came out flawless .He used to have a fancy blowtherm booth but the fuel cost per month was so much that he had to bunch up small jobs like bumpers all in one go .
@ukracer I'm not planning on doing this full time it's just a hobby . My rent is 250 per month and if my painting can contribute to this then that's just an added bonus . I totally understand what you are saying though the heat is literally being sucked out as soon as it gets in . I will be doing what snooper said as it seems like a more economical solution considering I can take my time with jobs as it's not a business

if you are lucky you will get jobs such as small panels bumpers and so on they are he best earners, people want full paint jobs for next to nothing
Yeah the painter inside said the same thing he just finished a full colour change on a Nissan silvia and he said with all the effort and time that went into it for the price 1500 euro which we both agreed was very cheap it just wasn't worth it . The customer even thought it was very expensive for a full colour change I thought the painter was mad to do it so cheap

people don't realise what goes into a full colour change including any hidden rot you find when removing trim and so on, I like doing bike bits, panels ie new wings and so on and panel damage

We've got humidity in the bays at work and the paint plant is of an late 80's vintage!

Once saw a Z3, completey repainted from black to white, job was absolutely flawless. I thought it was originally white and had been redone to spruce it up, only later did I learn it was black to start with. Some man hours go into a job lime that.
Great work so far... I have also just taken a lease out on a unit and building a booth .... With the air flow: for the cleanest work you want to run at just a slight over pressure ... all the booths I use atm run at slight over pressure .
if you simply build a metal box on the roof as a plenum ....clean air intake filters in the roof and a fan on to pushing air into the booth then run a duct into the side of the box and fire your heating into the duct this will work as a direct heater ...
best thing to do is build the booth ...put a couple of smoke bombs inside close the doors and check for leaks seal with exp foam or p/u sealant ...once sealed put intake fan on only and check for any more leaks once done put exhaust fan on and clear
install a magnehelic gauge and a speed controllers on both fans that way you can adjust the level of air flow to be slightly over pressure .....the pressure will change depending on size of object being painted ...hence making adjustable
