deepsea fishing... the most dangerous job in the world? maybe!

I've heard plenty of stories but only witnessed one bad one myself.

I was on my brother's boat for the summer fishing in the North Channel, (the bit between scotland and Ireland) the boat is a 40 metre Pelagic Trawler, (10 berth) and we usually did 9-10 days trips at sea.

We were in a particularly rough squal 7-8 winds and freshening to gale force, swell was 2 metres and this equates to waves the size of a two storey house tall. We had a large haul of fish and were gutting them for packing 5 of us standing at the table beavering away. We got hit side on by a freak wave and the boat listed 90 degreees on her side with half the wheel house submerged. When the boat righted herself one of the crewmen stood up with and had his own 11" filleting knife through the middle of his leg to the hilt and sticking out the other end. He promptly fainted and hit his head of bulkhead opening a 3" gash in his head. I've never seen so much blood!.

The Sea Air Rescue had to come lift him off the boat, that was alot of fun to watch it took them 25 mins to get it right, as the seas were so rough.

He missed the bone and major artery in his leg by millimetres and had 80 stitches in his head! needless to say he never went back to sea.

One of our lads had a trip to hospital Friday.

Installing some big steel pipework, it didnt fit well, so we were pulling it with a block and tackle.... the pipe jumped round, his glove caught and pulled the end of his finger into the gap just as it closed up.

Probably wouldn't have happened if he didnt have gloves on.

Nail pushed back in, skin pulled back into place and bandaged up tight. Might loose the tip of his finger if it doesnt heal.

Friend of mine had a drain grate (about 18') fall of the JCB forks onto his toes. The only think that saved his toes was that he wasn't wearing steelies. The Doc. said it would have collapsed and cut 'em clean off! Ouch.

I had a shot on a motocross bike May 4th must have been on it a minute or so had a recke around the field to check out the quary gave it a squirt to get up the hill and the b@stard threw me off.
I had the proverbial protective welly boots on.
No support to my ankle toes came up to meet my knee and bang shattered my ankle in nine pieces taken to hospital an the Sunday night operated on the Monday afternoon.
I have another two weeks and one day to go back to hospital so they can have another look at it.They managed to pin two pieces back to the tibia but on the outside of the ankle it was in small bits so they are letting it knit together its self.

I had a simular accident but on a mini moto..

went to see a friend who runs a small rural garage and decided to have a go on his old miltary mini moto (not one of the tacky chav ones!) Went down the road on it and thought it was a bit pokey. soooo on the way back i decided to let loose. When it hit 70 it started to speed wobble and the next thing i remember is waking up in hospital with a few worried faces looking at me.
I had smashed my right arm and right leg. If i'd been wareing a helmet then i would have been concious through it all. luckly for me i heal quite quick and was back on my feet after about 4 months but trying to use a crutch when your arm is in plaster is near on impossible!
That was about 5 ys ago and i can still tell you when the weather is going to change!

Funny you should say that have been up since 5am this morning my ankle was giving me jip and the weather has changed for the worst.
Don't know when I will be mobile fully have to go back to hospital on the 18th so they can have another look at it but hopefully get rid of the cast.
The thing I hate is having to pass work on to get it done even the simplest of things have become a hassle.

The biggest pi$$er is the benefits ***** I spent two hours on the phone filling in forms to claim being off work only to be told this morning that I do not qualify because of a break in my NI payments.
I took a year out to build the house and workshop spent a further two years on a small wage due to loosing a lot of clients when we moved out into the country and building up new clients, investing money that I did earn on other machinery due to different type of work available here than I was doing back home.
Having to try and be diplomatic here! it seems that if you try to get on in life you are penalised, but if you are a lazy person (in the form of ilegitimacy) or come in the back door you are greeted with open arms and given a roof over your head and beer tokens,I have made payments for 24 years previously but they look at the last three years and the previous don't count.

It's definitely that sort of a plce now, Britain.

My lad had a nasty accident in his car last October. He was forced off a dual carriageway by a white van bastard that didn't stop. Car written off (und subsequently stolen before the wreck could be recovered) and was briefly in hospital.

Lost his contracting job because he had to have a couple of weeks off, and then the effing tax man wrote to him saying he owed them about £1000 in unpaid tax !!!!!

Well, I'm sure there's many of you out there that have a variable income, so you'll love the Revenue as well.
When he's out of work he never claims any benefits, he just looks for the next job, and the Revenue's attitude is along the line of "we think you've been working so give us your money". £250 up front or we send the bailiffs round, no less.

Anyway, I wrote them a letter, telling them I was representing his interests in the matter and laying out what work he's done in the year in question, firmly requesting a reasoned rationale regarding their decision that he was to be persucuted for tax he didn't owe.
Upshot - got a letter from them after about 6 weeks with a cheque for the £250 they had demanded up front. Got another letter next day saying he was overpaid in tax to the tune of over £500.
Miserable gits, some downtrodded folks might have coughed up rather than have the bailiffs at the door.

Compare this with the cash in hand types that are always on the move and making the most of the benefit society.

That accident sounds like a typical Pikey job. Write a car off and then steal the scrap. Pity the taxman doesn't pay them due attention.

This is a trap to get me started isnt it, A freind had the very same experiance with our lovely NI, worked X amount of years, had to go in to have 2 Hip replacements at 28 I add, 8 months forced unemployment, could he claim could he Bo**ks.....

This FY iv made a reasonable profit, Beleave me if I worked out my labour rate per hour, Id be takeing myself to court.....Accountant rung up yep your tax liabilty for next year will be £xxxxx, So Im now working the rest of the year to pay my Tax in January otherwise come next year my Cash flow will be stuffed.....I wish I knocked out a dozzen kids, been on the Sick/dole all my life.....Or bought a Caravan and ripped old dears off...Grrrrr...

What I wana know is how these idots in power think that scroungeing dole bludgers are of any F***n use to this country....

To add insult to Injury, My Mother who has Parkinsons, My perants have paid into the system all there lifes have ended up going Private because of the god alwful way the NHS has handled it.....Grrrrr
