New engine driven welder (to me)

Thread resurrection time !!!
Finally after quite a delay we are on with fitting a drawbar and axle to the old Quasi Arc welder.
Drawbar made from re purposed steel frame and springs and axle were saved from the torch !

Blimey, that was quick.

Drawbar welder up and in place ready for drilling and bolting to chassis frame.
Will get the brakes on the axle sorted and connected up too, just need to narrow it first.
Towing hitch ready to attach to front, at least some progress !

Can anyone advise on how to go about making a current regulator for the second welder ?
First one works fine but second one is missing as it gave up many years ago with a previous owner and was removed.
Output is 20 to 300 amps D.C.
I can get further pics if needed.
Any ideas welcome, even something modern that will fit in the box.

What regulator is on the 1st Welder, would it not be a duplicate of that? If so maybe you (or one of our experts on here) could build or remanufacture something.

Yes I would imagine it’s just a duplicate of the first, looks like a huge resistor pack, will get more pics later.

Axle and springs are on !
Soon be mobile.
Axle has been narrowed by 14 inches.

Had the wheels in the lathe to open up the hole for the axle hub.
Both now on !

Suitably aged mudguards found, also had to replace inner tubes in the split rim wheels.
Nerve racking !

First mudguard bolted on, drawbar trimmed down, even managed to rig in a electric shutoff too, looking a bit better,

Bit more done, it’s now off the blocks and vintage mudguards are on too !
Exhaust silencers are back in place, hopefully get the storage box on tomorrow

Another update on the old Quasi Arc welder project !
Have added 2 vintage storage boxes at the rear and side and have made up the frames for the opening doors.
The top sections will open upwards and the bottom parts will fold downwards enough to access the controls.

2mm galvanised sheets arrived, looking good so far, trial fit on Sunday

Doors back off and 2mm galvanised steel sheet riveted on, few more rivets to put in yet then onto the catches !
What a difference it makes.

Another small update !
Found some cast iron drawer handles going cheap so they have done for the doors, 2 per side.
Also found a pair of NOS trailer wheels so they are in use now as cable storage.
Got my gas struts on the doors too, 700 newtons (about 70kg) of force needed to open them nicely.
