6 pole, set with 1400rpm 70hz as top speed, which is enough for what Im doing. No reason it couldnt handle 3000, other than current bearings are rubbish, I have got new skf to fit someday.
Takes effort to spin by hand - measures 160w at 250rpm, 550w at 1400rpm not cutting. The headstock does not get warm, but that energy much be going somewhere.

Is the motor hard to spin, or the whole lathe? With the feed gears disengaged motor and lathe should be (belt off) pretty easy to turn over.
On a realistic note, not sure I'd trust the chuck at 3000 RPM... Spindle collets for little stuff?

The spindle is hard to spin, as I said, needs new bearings, got them, but I dont want to do it yet as I might need help. The chucks are stamped 3000 but that speed is only good for me turning very small parts or milling very small cutters, neither I enjoy!
Playing with brake speeds. As it seems to coast to stop quite fast anyway, Ive got it set 0.2s and might try less. Resistors stay cold even with a big lump in the chuck, so I think Ive gone way over the top with this...
Only problem, its only using this on disable. The e trip is still coasting and is much slower. I cant see any setting for it!

Spoke with invertek about wiring E-stops and this might be useful to know. The enable and etrip inputs are not intended for it and shouldnt be relied upon - explained to me if the drive output module became faulty, it could apply torque.
Instead, have the drive set to fast stop on power loss, wire the e-stop with a contactor to cut the mains input.
So now Ive got the contactor and bits from the old warco I'll need to read up how to wire them! It is big doubt it will fit in the vfd box.
