Maybe too warm today.

Or poorly mixed. So many variables when painting. Good results can be achieved with a brush, but the right brush, a well prepared surface etc.

I shook the tin quite a bit before opening it. Used a cheapy brush. Surface prep was spot on. The paint just seemed to go off within 5 mins and became unworkable. Can I rub it back?

Add some thinners or wait until it's cooler.

I've got standard thinners and white spirit. Good enough?

And can I rub it back?

I don't know what is recommended for thinning Tekaloid. I don't see why you can't rub it back.

I always stir paint, never shake.

It sounds similar to Hammerite to be honest. Hammerite doesn’t like being painted over once it’s been laid, you have to wait for the drying time to lapse. It’s funny old stuff.
