been using 9100mp with xx lens a bit less than 4yr. seems perfectly reliable. replaced adf batteries once and just barely had to get new adflo battery as the life is ~500 charges and i suppose we hit that mark. whats there to complain about. bought g5-01vc for myself but only have 12hr weld time on it but i like it so far

whats your problem with the adflo ? i been using the same unit almost daily for nearly 4yr. not a single problem from it. battery just had to be replaced not long ago but probly we had the 500 charges on it

Dust/fume getting through the filters. Inside of air hose full of very fine dust (the exact stuff you want to be catching). Very noticeable when doing a lot of grinding.
I even bought a whole new system, a g5-01 to upgrade from my older FX system. Same issues.
I also work with very dense fume, from open arc welding. With normal welding, it's not as noticeable.
3M know there is an issue, they just won't fix it. It would mean the recall of hundreds of thousands of units across the world.
They offered me my money back if i returned the system. I should do it really and just buy a Sundstrom which i know captures all the hazardous dust/fume.
its the weekend now (saturday morning here) but when i get back to work monday ill have a close inspection of my 9100mp adflo system as thats what i use nearly every day for the past 4yr. what i can tell you is ive replaced alot of HE filters in it over the years and the back side has always been perfectly white ,while the front side is dark brown and even bordering on black.
efficeincy of papr systems largely depend on a few things
1 physical condition of the equipment. rips ,tears , worn through parts etc etc
2 proper use of the equipment by the operator
3 envirnmental condition the equipment is used in. i believe it is possible to overload the filter system in extreme cases and the owners talks about that i do believe
which reminds me. were you the guy (maybe it was someone else ?) that worked in a furnace or something and melted your adflo and battery pack then taped it all back together then posted photos all over the place ? that told me alot about how you take care of your equipment. it says clear as day in the 3m book not to use the system in conditions above 131f. you disregarded that it seems. did you expect them to give you a free replacment pump and battery pack ?
papr are positive pressure devices to reduce exposure limits. not 100% air tight biohazard nuclear suits capable of eliminating every microscopic nanometer sized particle
about your claim that 3m knows contaminents are going through or past the filter. was this something you spoke with them about on the phone or even better if it was in email that you could post up here. sorry but i just can believe your words. unless youve got something more tangible than hear say rubbish.
in the meen time heres my personal g5 01 at home. has around 20hr weld time and 10hr grinding since i got it couple months back. filter looks perfectly white. i also swabbed inside the breath tube and outlet port of the adflo. there just simply is nothing in there. no smoke. no black smoke film. no metal particles. nothing

3M visited me on more than one occasion to see the equipment in person. Finally after two replacement adflo backpacks, and a replacement head top, multiple replacement filters and hoses, they gave up and offered me a refund.
in a enclosed or mostly enclosed room /shop/ garage or other confined space , i suspect the filter would look terrible quickly. in minutes to hours probably. but i dont know any competant welder with knowledge in safety would bragg of such a thing. opening doors ,windows and adding extracting fans of any sort is always best practice when ever possible. that is rule no1 by even the companies making the papr.
youve presented zero facts what so ever to your claim that contaminants get past the filter. not a single photo of anything on the back side of the filter or front side of the pump. not a single photo of the swabbed breath tube. no air sample test on the tube outlet. nothing but a story that 3m representative arrived at your work and supposedly admited yes contaminants get past the filter. you want anybody to believe that nonsense ?
monday i can swab my 9100mp tube thats original with thousands of weld hours ,never once ever being cleaned. and photos of the pump front side. surely they would be covered in film ,smoke and everything else if the filters were no good.
maybe that will end it once and for all.

When I bought my speedglas I was trying to check the FPP rating on the filters but I seem to remember I had trouble finding the rating...may be different these days?
I always use mine with the carbon filter...but it does reduce the run time I think.

i'm getting the black crap in my nose, i'm tasting the metal dust while grinding, i'm tasting the hardfacing fume, i'm wheezing by the end of the day.
This is with extraction in large open spaces. If it's confined space then understandably there would be some leeway.
Look i've got nothing to gain by claiming the 3M products have gone to hell.
I used to be a massive Speedglas fan, feck me, i've got 3 of their helmets/systems for gods sake. FX, G5-01 and 9100xxi.
I've spent good hard earned money with them, my own money, not an employers money.
I've met the guys from sweden, actually from speedglas. They are top blokes, and i believe if they were still running the show, there would be no problem, no dispute.
But we all know how corporate greed works and the race to the bottom of the barrel.
Like i said, i've tried a competitors system, and it was night and day different. The filtration was leagues better. The Sundstrom head top is pants, but it works. The ADF is basic, but it's dead clear and again works.
This is the last i've got to say on the matter, you've got your opinion, i've got mine.
