This is exactly what my Triumph has - you can quickly angle the toolpost to suite the job and the tool. Would like a qtp for it though, but that size they are expensive...

That's the toolpost and compound slide rebuilt and wow what a difference turning it really smooth dovetail slid in on an oil slick where as when I was taking it apart I needed a rubber mallet.
Can easily turn one handed nice and accurate and gibs nipped up gives a little more resistance but still real smooth.
Now in oil and paper to keep crap off it and stop surface rust while I get the cross slide and maybe apron sorted as cross slide is quite free at the moment but apron is really stiff moving by hand not sure why.

Check the carriage lock isn't on a bit. It's a square head stud on the front, tailstock end of the apron. Actuates a tapered bit underneath against the vee way.

Funnily enough just in from the garage messing about thinking hmm what does this bolt do then tah dah it lined up with the handwheel and all of a sudden it was free
Thanks for that , plenty more to learn about it I think but that's all my slides now really smooth so perfect

Yep that's what I meant, should have done as hood did and post the parts diagram! Funnily enough, mine doesn't work, won't lock up at all so it needs stripped down.

Most likely muck between part 12 and the saddle which stops it pulling up enough. If it is worn, which I think unlikely unless some monkey has been power feeding with it locked, then you may have to skim a bit off the top of part 12.

Check as well that the washer under the square-headed bolt is the correct thickness. If the washer is too thin, the unthreaded part of the bolt may jam up on the top of the threads in 12 stopping it clamping properly.
An alternative is to build up the lower part - dismantle, clean, tighten and check the gap with a feeler gauge. Glue on the next size up feeler gauge.
You can fine tune the washer thickness so that whatever wrench you put on the square-headed bolt faces the correct direction when the clamp is open or closed.

Time for an update here
Firsr rolled the cabinet outside on a pallet with wheels and jacked up then soaked in degreaser and pressure washed to get all the muck off , also a lot of the top layer of lighter green paint flaked off with the pressure washer and revealed this darker green so think I will look to see if i can buy that colour to redo some of it as paint job looks even worse now its about 5 colours lol
Claned cabinet inside and rolled in front of its final home , I really like the gold letters on the triumph bit and as I said far too many colours showing here but its all clean and a good suface
Pushed bed in front of cabinet on pallet with castors then rigged up with the lifting strap taking the weight and the rachet straps just stopping it pivoting not doing any real lifting
Then the bed lowered on and bolted down through 4 bolts on each side and headstock rigged up avoiding the spindle , again rachet strap taking no real weight just stops it pivoting round the lifting strap
The first time I have seen it all together and really impressed, nothing aligned properly yet still needs motor in but will hopefully sort that out today. Then gap bed needs some bolts as the previous owner lost them , toolpost is rebuilt ready to go the cross slide is cleaned but in bits on the bench so that needs put back together but was just full attack on actually assembling the lathe last night.
Not a huge amount to test at the moment but thought could check this , looks good cant post the video here but seems at least under half a micron of runout cant really measure it with my gear only got down to 0.01mm so might get some tenths indiactors or something

Liked this, and good to see one in bits. This is what I should have done with mine.
Once all my other machines are sorted the Triumph is coming apart. Maybe @pressbrake1 will have his planer up and running by then.....

Before you use it in anger, check the Trav-a-Dial is adjusted properly, so that when it says 10mm, it has moved 10mm. Even more so if you end up removing or disturbing it during the clean up. The wheel on it is like a tour de France bicycle tyre, such that its rolling circumference changes depending on what angle it is presented to the 'road'.
