Kurtis only uses inset tooling. All that requires is to set the tool height by some permanent method (grinding the holder or fitting a fixed shim) and he can swap and change at will.

Looks like the previous owner just welded shims to a few of the tools and kept some shims in the boxs of other tools so only mess about with their centre height once that way like you say.
I do agree the QCTP is nice and handy since I have used it on a student before but for the extra cost and butchering of the machine I'm not too fussed at the moment , However not used the lathe for that much yet so..

4 ways work fine especially if you are just messing around. QC can make a huge difference if trying to make good use of your time. The best though for me is the capto I adapted for the triumph, man, that thing is brilliant, I wish I had thought about it sooner

If something fits it that may be more of an option and keeping it common holders would keep the cost down I suppose. Will add to the DRO of nice to haves / upgrades list once its all running and making some chips and useful things.
I meant modify a QCTP to fit rather than the other way round. Or make one that fits.Nah its sacrilege
Got used to it now.
And spare holders are far from cheap.
It looks like if you bored a suitably large hole in one it would work.

Capto is a tooling system from Sandvik, really meant for CNC.Capto - Please explain,I'm lost relatively new to this game
I was gifted a load and at first I made up some adapters for the CNC but hardly used them as I had already made a VDI turret for the CNC which meant I could have quick repeatable tool holder swaps.
I then thought about adapting one of the Capto holders for the manual lathe and it works great, just welded it to a modified QC tool holder so I could fit it to the Triumph.
Pic of a load of capto head, the lower ones in the rack. 1/4 turn reaeses them from the holder on the lathe.
How big is is?
Sure a Dickson would require something custom but some others might work. A Multifix size B has a 32mm bore for example (a size B has a minimum 30mm from base of compound to centre, don't know if that is suitable)

I think it would have the best chance of success with a 2-sided Dixon type of holder: the eccentrics that clamp the tool holders are fairly slim and you could offset the central-post hole to the unused corner of the square block.
It might also be possible to reduce the central post on the factory casting and turn up a sleeve to allow you to go back to the 4-way if required. From the pictures, it has plenty of meat on it, but you would need to measure the underside to make sure you would not weaken it excessively by reducing its diameter.
What diameter and height is the central post? Which Dixon is the correct size for this machine? S2 or S3, see: http://www.lathes.co.uk/latheparts/page13.html

If you want a qctp you can bore out some large bar such that it clamps onto the stub.
Or make up some more 4 way posts. Its only one bolt to spin out and swap them? quicker than changing tools around.
I've got one of these on the input, the power/amps gives a good idea how hard you are pushing the motor. With 5kw motor I would see it as a challenge to see what kind of chips that will make.

I'm sure it could get doing some nice actual chip breaking not some stringy mess's that I made on the mini lathe. What the worst than can happen with that challenge
I see thanks, a bunch of kit from Sandvik sounds expensive
but if there's donated cant complain. Impressive setup on the quick change shelf and neat drill storage in the back there.

Well didn't realize how much arsing around it would take to get the tool post set how I think it should have been. As @dan.taylor.1 says about the splines and cams , I should have really center popped the cams and shaft so I could just go back but then that would make it way too easy for me 
Anyway think it's sorted and the rachet and lock is right it locks in at parallel however not sure on the turning the toolpost to select another tool movement need to try find a video of the toolpost working properly to compare it to.

Then motor is now out the cabinet so going to soak the cabinet in gas turbine cleaner and various other degreasers then pressure wash it.
Also hopefully get some more off the lathe bed to clean up once the whole toolpost assembly is cleaned up and out the way then start on the next part and work my way through parts washing oil etc.

To select the next tool all you should need to do, if working properly, is push the handle as far as it will go then pull it back. The toolpost should rotate to the next position and lock down. It can take a few goes to get all the internal bits in the correct position so that it does work right.

That's ok, a lot of bigger lathes just have a tee slot in the compound slide for the toolpost, it doesn't NEED to be that huge great lump of a centre post. You'd get away with a simple stud for a QCTP, as long as it's flat to the deck then it will be rigid.

You'd struggle to centre pop the bits, they're hardened, I tried and blunted 2 centre punches
