No More Road Tax Reminder Letters (V11)

I found out today that the DVLA have stopped sending out Road Tax Reminder Letters (The V11 document).
I have a vehicle that the tax was due for renewal on the 1st August, just now taxed it online.

"Drivers across the UK are being urged to check their road tax as the Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) makes a change.
It comes as the DVLA confirms that reminders to pay road tax will no longer be sent out in the post.
Instead, drivers will receive a text message or email informing them that they need to pay road tax.
The DVLA road tax change is part of the agency's new driver and vehicles online account service, which lets all vehicle and driver information be in one place. " The Glasgow Herald.

Another "pay more, get less" from our powers that be. Perhaps they will pass on the savings they make down to us by reducing the annual tax?

Add what they are going to make in fines to the savings of not sending out reminders
Its going to pay to calender all the motoring reminders a bit sharpish, I cant keep track of what we have now.

They need to save money and protect revenue. Come on only £100 per year for a motorcycle is too cheap to warrant a reminder

Motorists can now opt for digital tax reminders instead of waiting for a paper slip to be sent in the post.

The new tool is the latest phase of the DVLA’s new driver and vehicle account service which offers a range of online services for road users.

Drivers will be able to set up vehicle tax reminders by email and text message.

Road users can also choose to stop getting tax reminders sent through the post if they wish.

Personally I don't see a problem, either set an Outlook or gmail etc. calendar reminder, pay by direct debit or recurring card payment.
Mine have been paid by DD since they made it an available option - just one thing I don't have to remember to do.

Online? it's no harder than typing your post above this one.
I've just bought another car, it took me less than a minute to tax it, no finding somewhere to park (or trudging through the rain), no standing in a queue waiting for someone to decide if they want first or second class postage to send a parcel to Nigeria - and fill in the customs declaration, no having to wipe your debit card on a sleeve because the card reader 'doesn't always work properly', no getting to the front of the queue to suddenly find the three staff are now just one as two of them go on their dinner break.....
Trust me, it's just. Easier.

Yep, I've bashed together a quick calendar to prevent discovering I've been running about without Road Tax for five days again.

Pay monthly, they do charge you a slight premium, but no worries forgetting.

That's not what the DVLA'S website says;

From today (2 August 2023), motorists can opt for digital vehicle tax reminders rather than having to wait for a paper reminder to drop through their letter box. The change comes as part of DVLA’s new Driver and vehicles account service, which launches on GOV.UK today.

DVLA are asking motorists to test a new service that allows them to view their driving licence and vehicle details in one place.

At no point does it say that they're not going to send letters anymore, although I suspect that's where we'll end up.

But for the time being if you want an e mail or text reminder you've got to register or you'll have to wait for the highly efficient postal service to deliver your reminder.
