I note it's updated annually, meaning past approvals are out of date perhaps?

They mostly last for one year so sometimes if the sales are too low the cost of the approval just doesnt justify it. Thats what happened with Jims customer there was no one else who needed LR approval so its a simple profit and loss situation

And so the LR list may include it but the tests havent been done

In the majority of cases the fabricator doesnt really need the approvals but its become a sort of kite mark or a sign of good quality. Approvals were designed to provide assured products for ship building but there are many excellent products that will never go near a ship so the approvals are a waste of time and money really.

Some do, some dont.........its supply and demand again........the shipyards used to be on good deals especially long ago when it was British Shipbuilders nationalised industry........even then there were pockets that wouldnt use our product so paid through the nose for another because their welders preferred that rod.........and again sometimes justified but usually not.

We had 2 rods exactly the same except one was dyed blue and the other red........you would be amazed at the comments of how good one was versus the other.......many times I had all on keeping a straight face.........other makers did the same .... and still do
