Ithought Diesel's original ideas were based on coal dust as a fuel.??Virtually all veg oils are more than combustible enough to be used as an alternative to DERV in most older diesel engines. Rudolf Diesel's original design was based on veg oil consumption so that subsistence farmers could 'put aside' a field or two to grow ground nuts (peanuts) as a source for the oil so they weren't reliant on the increasingly huge petrochemical conglomerates. I've even used it to boost the heat in a wood fire inside a fire bucket!
