If you can't get 3amp? then buy an fuse holder that will take 3amp standard fuses and solder the brass terminals on the old fuse holder to the new fuse holder.

i have one very similar to that,casing is all rusty and battered but still works a charm,at least with the gauge i can tell how the battery is cooking.

sort of a silly question here but does the screw in part hold a 3 amp fuse instead of the wire as that wire is very hard to get hold of nowadays

you can get 4 amp fuses in the same as above there only small as well

but to get 4 amp wire is gonna be very hard to find

I was having a look at how the fuse opens up and my dad came in for a yarn and I lost the wee piece that the fuse wire wraps round, anyway after half an hour of crawling around on the floor I found the we thing on a toolbox door.

Thanks danielw and gaz1 but that's a little bit more than I want to pay for a bit of fuse wire. Looks like it's gonna have to be 5 amp.

Christ Dan, are you sure you couldn't find anything more expensive?

A local hardware store should still sell those cards with various sizes of fuse wire on them Chris. There are some people out there still using the old fuse boxes in their houses.

I hope your right matt. I'll call in a couple of places tomorrow but I don't ever remember seeing any lower than 5 amp wire on those cards.

You've got me wondering now. Might just be my memory being crap, but I think there used to be a three wire card and a five wire one? I could well be imagining things though. I'll have a dig round and see if I might have owt here on that front.

I THINK you used to get 3, 5, 10, 15 & 30 amp.

3amp fuse wire is not common as its for the very old type bakalite fuse board or ceramic fuses.

By an inline fuse holder and solder those lugs to it and then you will be able to change the fuse as and when you need to.

Its 3amp....needle&haystack springs to mind,I'm sure now the card wire is only 5,10,15 and 20 amp.

My grandfather used to plug the iron into his lightbulb socket,silly old git......always remember the cord coming down from the socket.

So did mine. I still have his radio what was made to be plugged into a bulb socket.
Still works as well.
