I reckon a 50 joined to a 25 will take the same or room as a 150, unless you stacked them maybe. Belt-drive 100 or 150 litre may also run quieter, would make another 2 bar of pressure and be better on maintenance. Her indoorses little 24 litre is as loud as my 3hp's.

On that front, my second comp cost £280 from Gary at Shiremoors. It is s/h but it's fit and was serviced & sorted, oil, receiver washed out etc, and he's a totally reliable guy.

I wont be connecting the two tanks when i get it, once the engine is fitted to give more room in garage, then thats when ill connect them.

Thing is that will be too tall and when i get room i would prefer the usual type tanks.

I checked that place out and found what im looking for. I gave them a quick call and its their own made machine and as said they give a good after sales service. The machine in question is at the bottom of this page http://www.shiremoorcompressors.co.uk/

They also do ex display models and used too, i will wait for her email about the decibel sound amount then ill call them tomorrow and ask about their other ranges. I would love the belt driven type but the 50 ltr tanks ones are just over £300, maybe i could swap this one at a later date who knows. Ill know more tomorrow and keep you informed.

Cheaper than the MM VAT free one and will come with a good after sales service, it looks a more pro made type than the Clarke one, i bet it has a better release valve. I like it a lot more tbh, motor looks bigger too unless that's the picture. They also have used ones, i will see which i get tomorrow.

They've been around for ages and have a great reputation. Well worth giving Gary a ring. The s/h stuff changes quickly so the website isn't reliable for that iirc.

Just spoke to the engineer and he said its not worth fixing it because of how cheap and rubbish the machine is. He said the Shiremoor own made compressors will be Chinese or rebadged machines. He said to go for the Italian machines, they are the best you can buy these days. He wasn't trying to sell me anything because he has nothing in stock.

Im going to call shiremoor soon and see what S/H belt machines they have, i was told the belt driven ones produce the same amount of air but at a slower rate so more quiet.

Pretty much a haze when it comes to compressors it seems.

Which brands are the Italian machines ?

Not quite correct about belt drive units. The pump runs slower by virtue of being geared down through the pully ratio, so it runs at less than motor speed. This does make them quieter but the air is compressed just as quickly as the pump is designed to produce it's full output at the lower running speed.
I know one brand that is definitely Italian, Fiac. Not bad units.
Ask Shiremoor which of his units have Italian made pumps. ERP, which is a British compressor company, use Italian made pumps also.

But you would need to connect it all up to a receiver, fairly easy if you have the time and inclination. The one off your existing compressor could be used.

Too big again, the room i have is enough for the machine size i posted, height and width.

Fiac look nice machines but they are a little high in price for what i want, ill give Shiremoor a call in a mo when i get some free time.

I have one similar to the MM one, branded Wolfair, got it cheap of Ebay, it does all I need re airtools, tyre changes and such, but be warned these are very noisy machines, if I forget to switch it off, and have left a leaky tool connected, I will be woken and ordered to 'switch that **** thing off!' some time during the night by my very displeased wife!

I would expect the Italian one to be just as noisy, ally built and they probably rev quite High too, near neighbors will complain!

Im sure it wont be over 97Db like the one i had.

I called them and they dont have any second hand models at the mo, that could change at any point though. Gary is on holiday so i'm just gonna have to order the £178D/D model now, i should get it by Friday. I really cant waste any more time, done that enough as it is.
