Sorry,but i'm a little confuseddotcom here have you started this post to moan you've been ripped off or really want to learn to do your own welding repairs?
Because a price was not agreed to start with as last minute job .
All you lot are trying to do is justify there bloody price when clearly daylight robbery.
I can supply 3diffrent quotes from highly respected restoration company's all half the price. I genuinely think this garage is a rip off . this is my 5th vw van and had similar work carried out on all of them and prices have never been anywhere near the ones there trying to bill me for .
It's not a money problem or me trying to be a tight sod as am not on a budget

Will be learning to weld got to do front archs yet haha.
Was not a rush job I have not driven it for 4 months and I don't need it on the road .
And I have not been ripped off because have not paid yet and certainly will not be paying those magical prices would rather ask them to cut them back off and I will go elsewhere

Was there any storage costs involved if you're not collecting till the weekend? many places charge as it may be taking the space of a paying job. Or am i missing something.
I think your last quote sums it up someone trying there luck with the billing department.

I no the work that goes into it stood watching when did set on old van . Got arc eye watching. Oops.

Err, hang on this is a totally different story. Nothing to do with welding, you would have had the same result if you'd gone to a tailor for a suit.
Dodgy back street shop, price not agreed beforehand, unfeasibly large bill...
You got mugged mate. Having said that, I've got some beans here...

You only get mugged when you hand over money . No money has changed hands.
Will go have this argument with the garage and show them all other quotes for same work.
More than happy to pay them 420 like everyone else has quoted and published by many traders as going price but certainly not the rest of there made up price

inspect them carefully check that the inner arches are as should be and sealed to the outer arch otherwise youll be filling your sills up when it rains also if a quality job they will be let in ie butted up to original steel not just placed over the steel on the van
Thanks for advice as say will put pictures up . I no there supposed to be sealed to inner panel . Bloody tuff stuff that is took me 2hrs pouring boiling hot water down inside of front wings and cutting away at selant when did front wings to facelift conversion

I say "they" because there will be another chap there when you go to collect, a big one I should expect...
There's a thread on here about my own experience. I couldn't afford to have my old bus welded up so I did it myself. It's a shockingly bad job tbh but good enough for an mot, good enough for me.

hot air gun softens the sealant so you can scrape it off
Couldn't find one in garage and the other half got face on when used her hair dryer haha

May i respectfully suggest you might want to take a second opinion on your legal advise.
No contract in place and no verbal agreement on price.
I couldn't give a toss it's the principal I will throw a box of matches in it while still sat oin workshop .
I don't mind paying anyone for a good days work I expect to be paid for what I do but I certainly will not be paying way over the going rate . Backed up by several quotes.
Never once have I argued over a price for any work carried out on anything but this very optimistic bill I will persue

Good work on the van unfortunately they all attract rust in the same places but most panels are avaliable. I have same issue with my side step and sourced a new item cost me just over 300quid for complete side step
After rea ding your thead few months ago i see the panels you sourced was not best fit hence I got mine from heritage
