I recently bought a used air filter assembly, it was sent in a red Milwaukee 9 inch angle grinder box, complete with picture. Luckily we are rural, as it was left on top of the post box on the drive. I can't imagine it would be there if we lived in town. I did mention this to the sender, who admitted it was a silly thing to do, but he only thought of this after it had been sent.

I often find boxes left randomly on the drive, and Fedex are the worst for this.

Another one last week. I ordered a couple of cylinder head gaskets, that duly arrived via Yodel, but in order to to get them in the letterbox, despite being packed in stout cardboard, folded them in half lengthwise, so they are useless, and when the seller tried to claim, he was told that they were "prohibited items" and refused.

I must say though, that our regular Evri driver, Mishka, is Polish, and is great. Always puts things out of sight and under cover when no one is here, and leaves a note. As are out RM and Parcelforce guys

Demand a signature for & photo of the delivery from the courier

Yeah, I note that almost all of the commercial suppliers I use insist on signed for delivery.

I presume that they've concluded that the extra quid or so works out cheaper than absorbing the cost of lost consignments.

A few times I found things in my garage, where the delivery guy had actually opened the up and over door and put them inside. I’d rather they didn’t do that now as I don’t like people knowing what’s going on inside my cave, even in this old folks area, so I lock it nowadays.

My son sold a exhaust off a motorbike for his mate.
Guy purchased it and we sent it to the address he gave.
A month later it came back....I spoke to Ebay who said get him to repurchase. I explained we had already used the postage fee.
It looked like the ebay international address.....I wasn't. It was a company the customer had used before but had forgot that address was still showing as default.

So back onto ebay who again said refund him....I explained I can't. It's ALL or nothing.

The guy wants it sent again but unless he requests a refund ebay won't get involved and I am damned if I am sending a parcel worth 85 quid at my own cost with no protection.

That's it there.

Paul from N'hants made me a great parcel box out of 2mm stainless steel several years ago as I intentionally do not have a letter plate in the door as part of energy conservation in our home .

An aside but I need soon to make a "through fence" letter box / parcel drop box sometimes.

On these lines but I'm baulking at the circa +£350 price. Don't like either the rear, top sharp edge. Can't help but think I can do something in say sheet steel or even 3/4" ply with a rolled steel / ali top.

I have been known to 'recycle' boxes that way for posting secondhand eBay stuff. But on a lot of them, you can unfold the box and reassemble it inside out, so it doesn't attract as much attention.

I would like a Pound (or a Euro) for every time I have had a similar message. I think they either run out of time, or cannot find ones address within ten seconds, or is too far off their route that particular day, so this is an easy get out for them.

We have motion sensed CCTV here, so I know that no one has been here, yet despite complaining about it several times, nothing happens. I just wish they would tell the truth.

I just got a £3.91 refund from Paypal for a remote I ordered on Aliexpress. RM tracking said it was delivered but when I rang their number they said it was returned to sender as it was inadequately addressed. How did the tracking work out it was delivered ? When I bought my log splitter a few years ago it was delivered in a large crate about 6 feet long by a lorry with a drop tailgate and the driver had an electric pallet truck. Problem was the road works outside our house and being on a one way. I had to help him balance it from about 200 yards away and manoeuvre it through the gap into our gate but he was very patient.

Managed to track down the seller's address, positively identified that it's actually a fair sized business, also found a lot of negative reviews online for this kind of behaviour, and so on principle have filed a case via the Small Claims Track on the grounds that:

- the seller is in fact a business, making them subject to regulation as a distance seller, and

- by their inaction, they have committed a breach under Paragraph 29 (Passing of Risk) of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and

- this is aggravated by them breaching the information provisions of Paragraph 8 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and deceptively claiming to be a private seller, whilst in fact being regulated as a distance seller.

I also notified their local trading standards of the breach of the information provisions of the CCR13 for good measure.


Speaking to an old school friend who is now a QC, he seemed to think that the combination of deception to avoid regulation and the very clear wording of the CRA2015 would make it unlikely that my £35 court fee would be throwing good money after bad.


However honestly, it's cathartic to know I'll be tying the seller up with bureaucracy they can't afford to ignore, causing inconvenience out of all proportion to the cost of just doing the right thing in the first place.

Had I not found all the reviews showing it was a pattern of behaviour, I might have been more inclined to let it go.

I can just feel myself becoming more and more like my father as I do all this.

I have requested that:

- the court moves to dispose of the claim without a hearing under 27.10 of the Civil Procedure Rules, subject to the other party agreeing,
- any hearing be held here in Sheffield, about 250 miles from the seller.

I figure that there's nothing I am able to add by making a verbal representation to the court, and the judge is likely to look favourably on someone who doesn't want to waste their time unnecessarily.

Bloomin heck, that would be funny if it wasn’t true. Our parcels normally get left on the front steps or in the porch. All depends which driver we get. Our last delivery was carried round to the back door and left on the steps there, a first. Christmas is coming, must be wanting a good tip !

I think that you will be forced down the mediation route as a first step, unless the defendant rolls over. Bear in mind though that the defendant normally gets to choose where the hearing is to be held, unless there are good reasons against. If the claim is defended, then the judge will want to cross examine.

Did you remember to claim the 8% interest? I got Gloucester City Homes on that one as they only paid the claim in time. As the interest was outstanding, they got a Judgement recorded. Did I ever laugh, especially when their solicitors tried to claim that interest wasn't due and then tried to trick me into asking for the claim to be set aside! (Not my first rodeo, but seemed to be theirs!).
