I was reading about the Spanish flu outbreak in the early 1900 (wasn't Spanish apparently)....but they reckon it wiped out 5% of the earths population...it was particularly bad because unlike most of these infections it actually impacted the healthy part of the population (vs the very young and the very old)!!

To be fair we are reaching population saturation on the planet so I think these sorts of things are going to become a lot more regular.

Wonder how many "environmental types" will be suspending their saving of the planet and driving to work instead of using public transport!

No antibiotics back then for the secondary infections nor any real understanding of the need for soap and water. And pre TV and radio so no easy way to disseminate health care information.
I always wash my hands after I have had to shake hands with someone. I was a pharmacist in retail, 'have you got something for my cough?' and then they would demonstrate by coughing all over me. Lovely

Yea but I reckon they were tough as old boots back then....I mean come on....they had a flu pandemic and they were fighting a war too!

I have a Chinese neighbour just back from Bejing and he wears dust masks all the time but only for a short time so i get the part used ones out of his recycle bin to keep me safe from others.
