Fair point, but, i the grand scheme of things, it's a minute blip on their time.
Better to educate anyone you may know who may risk falling for such a thing. A better use of ones time, IMHO.

I had one Monday - "Mike with indian accent" - told him the person dealing with internet security would only do a Whatsapp Video call with him.
He went for it - took my mobile number. Call went live - we crowded around the PC as I was doing it.
You wanna see the Indian Chaps face when we put the workshop cat on the bench in front of the camera/mic....
"Yard Cat" meowed to cue. No really the cat likes the computor screen and will interact with it...
We pi$$ed ourselves laughing...

Yeah the "yard cat" is better company - than answering the phone to Indians from another continent - trying to steal from you - extract your bank details.

Whilst they are talking to us, they are not talking to someone vulnerable. I call that a good use of our time.
I just used to tell them the kettle was boiling and would they hold while I sorted it out. Now we don't have a land line anymore and I don't seem to get them on the mobile.

as soon as i hear a foreign voice have a quick listen then knock them off. cant just instantly do it without asking them wot they want as i do work for a fair few from india a few iranians and a couple of africans 
all nice well to do customers most doctors and surgeons they pass my name around

I nearly told someone to "go away" but didn't, looked very suspect. Swiss phone number, dodgy accent, bad line
Decided to hear him out, 18 months later I'd done £250k worth of work for him

In the 90s I also had an "unlikely" one. Turned out to be a diplomat with the United Nations and I got two paid working holidays to Geneva out of it, plus lots of sales. He often used to ring me from a Hilton in London and say "That latest top of the range satellite receiver, get one sent down to me here" or the suchlike. Never forget it, his name is still easy to recall; he always introduced himself as V.M. N...
Wish I was brave enough to interact with the scammers, now a days it's mainly all email/mobile scams I receive.
The last person to person one was a few months ago.
I been watching to much of Kit but that damn wig is just so bloody annoying I turn off.

One advantage of a smartphone. It knows at least some of the dodgy numbers and the phone lights up red with a "suspected scam" warning. I can either hit reject or block or block and report, all of which cut the call off.
I'm.afraid I just simply loathe thieving scumbags. They are trying to con and steal from me (& others).
I don't see anything awry with letting them know they are lowlife bottom-feeders.
After all, if the same guy tried to burglarise my home & I disturbed him - I'm not going to be polite.
Rather if it's to hand, there's a good chance of much loud expletives, with the potential to get 2 foot of scaffold pole pushed up his nose with meaning.

Parking eye sent sent me a nice get out of jail for free letter allowing us 2 hrs in their managed parking areas as I sent them proof that both of us are now 80% disabled , Why the hell won't they run the disabled registered cars through the computer instead of slapping everyone and then back tracking when they find you do actually need extra time . Being very recently hit with level 6.5 + progressive multiple sclerosis Alison was falling to pieces as she couldn't cope with the letter .
I noticed that there are four different parking management companies stalking the unwary driver in the locality of Cross Hands SA18 .
Olha our Ukrainian refugee gal has been done twice ...... as she has parked her car in one place and walked into three different shopping zones . She struggles reading & speaking fluent English & to her Welsh is as close to hieroglyphics as you can get . .

They are rarely one offs. These parasites seem to target a number range, then go at it hammer and tongs. I haven't had one for a month or so, but when I do there will be three or four in the course of a week. Complaints to the Indian Police end up in file 13 so no remedy there. It may be unfair to accuse them of being complicit, but it certainly looks like it. The calls come from vast office blocks with hundreds of scammers, often from Jaipur and some from whatever Calcutta is called this week.
