When they're wasting their time talking to you, at least they're not talking to some poor old sod who might fall for it?I've never seen the appeal of stringing those folk along, or being rude to them, personally.
I have better things to do with my time, & courtesy enough to not resort to insults. Simpler to just hang up.

Eric or Dave with a strong Indian accent has phoned me today going on about my IPv6 being compromised. I told him to do one, two minutes later phoned again.
This afternoon, his brother Brian phoned. Again, told to do one. Again phoned back almost immediately. He got the full invective.
What are they on about? Do they want my IPv4 address? I don't have IPv6.
What can they do with it if I was silly enough to read it out?
Fair point, but, i the grand scheme of things, it's a minute blip on their time.
I just used to tell them the kettle was boiling and would they hold while I sorted it out. Now we don't have a land line anymore and I don't seem to get them on the mobile.I've never seen the appeal of stringing those folk along, or being rude to them, personally.

Whilst they are talking to us, they are not talking to someone vulnerable. I call that a good use of our time.
That's not why most do it, however, or so it appears. For their own amusement/gratification, going by how many folk love to recite their conversation to others.

I nearly told someone to "go away" but didn't, looked very suspect. Swiss phone number, dodgy accent, bad line
Decided to hear him out, 18 months later I'd done £250k worth of work for him
Wish I was brave enough to interact with the scammers, now a days it's mainly all email/mobile scams I receive.Well there is no reason why it can't be an enjoyable experience!
I'm.afraid I just simply loathe thieving scumbags. They are trying to con and steal from me (& others). That's not why most do it, however, or so it appears. For their own amusement/gratification, going by how many folk love to recite their conversation to others.
Parking eye sent sent me a nice get out of jail for free letter allowing us 2 hrs in their managed parking areas as I sent them proof that both of us are now 80% disabled , Why the hell won't they run the disabled registered cars through the computer instead of slapping everyone and then back tracking when they find you do actually need extra time . Being very recently hit with level 6.5 + progressive multiple sclerosis Alison was falling to pieces as she couldn't cope with the letter .Try it again and let us know?
Its when they repeatedly call you umpteen times, often from different numbers that action is requiredI've never seen the appeal of stringing those folk along, or being rude to them, personally.

If they're being that persistent, I can understand issuing a "blunt" response, but not when it's simply a one-off.
