commpression fitting have there uses in order of prefferance
solder
compression
push fit (not in my house )last resort
Have you had bad experiences with push fit then? I've used them a lot and haven't had any issues at all (and we have very high water pressure: about 120 psi from memory; having said that, the high pressure might help maintain the push fit maybe?). I've never had a push fit fitting leak, which certainly can't be said of compression fittings. When I absolutely have to use compression fittings and have the option of how to do it, I fit them onto a short length of copper pipe (so I can tighten them away from any awkward walls or restricted areas) and then solder the copper pipe to the rest of the system.
For me the order of preference is:
1. Push fit (equal first depending on where it's going)
1. Solder (equal first depending on where it's going)
3. Solder ring (no leak issues with these, I just prefer assembling stuff one joint at a time)
4. Pay someone else to do it
7. Compression
i dont know why i dont like them as i dont use them ive got no real experance but its i could be i dont like change and these are quite new to the market and unless you have 20 years in use in a house no body realy knows how good they are in the long term
i did have a push fiting fail the other week on a filter on our fridge the other week(these are replaced every time you change the filter so these is not reason for it to fail in a few months) lucky the otherhalf was home so sorted it pritty quick but was a bit of a mess after up to 20 mins of running water in the house i thnk she has caught is early but hate to think what would of happened if we had been out all day or even worse on holiday
a mate had them under a sink for the hot and cold it was a mess after a fitting for washing mechine dishwasher the taps outlet for fridge i was hung all in under the sink and i said you need to change that every time you put stuff in there it knocks the pipe work and he had at least a few leaks under there and one that was quite hard to fix so much so that he ended up replacing the lot and as he wanted a quick job replaced the lot with all new push fitting
dont know if right but turn untill stiff then a nip not had one leak yet but allways add ptfe tape when i use commpression fittings
thats after the the gas safe plumber has one that leaks and winds it up even further hoping for the bestTighten until they squeal like a pig isn't it?
as I say, on plumbing compression fitting there is a Arrow on the nut. Do up until snug then half a turn. @8ob I prefer Boss blue. It doesnt go hard
